What Is Motherboard:The Main Printed Circuit Board Inside The PC That

Contains and Controls The Components That Are

Responsible For Processing Data. Multi-layered
printed circuit board Copper circuit paths called traces
carry signals and voltages across the motherboard
some layers carry data for input/output while other
layers carry voltage and ground returns.

Types of Motherboard:1 Integrated

2 Non Integrated
Non Integrated: - non-integrated system board uses
installable components and expansion cards. For example,
a non-integrated system board may allow you to upgrade
the video card by removing the old one and installing a
new one. Non-integrated motherboards typically have
several PCI expansion slots as well.

Integrated: - Most of the component that would

otherwise be installed as expansion cards is integrated
into the motherboard circuitry. (ISB) were designed for
simplicity. Of course, theres a drawback to this simplicity:

when one component breaks, you can't just replace the

component that's broken; the whole mother board must be
replaced. Although these boards are cheaper to produce,
they are more expensive to repair.

From Factor of Motherboard:Form factor means the size and shape of the actual
motherboard. Form factor determines the size and shape
of the main board and also dictates what kind of case it
will fit into.

3 most common Form Factor classifications:

1Baby AT
2ATX
3Slim line NLX
PC/XT - Although it wasn't the first PC, it had many
features that were not available with previous PC
designs. One such feature was that it was the first
computer to have a hard drive. It also had a large
computer motherboard that was installed into a full
size horizontal or desktop case.
Full-Size AT - The full-size AT main boards were
large in order to accommodate a lot of circuitry and
could be installed in full-size AT desktop and tower

cases. At present, full-size AT motherboards are no

longer produced.
Baby-AT - Baby-AT form factor became the most
popular computer motherboard because it was able to
fit into a number of different case designs. Today, you
May still be able to get motherboards of this design.

A smaller motherboard (9x10") that superseded the

one used in the original IBM AT (12x13.5"). The Baby

AT motherboard has been widely used in 386, 486

and Pentium PCs.

AT/X Motherboard:-

A motherboard that superseded the widely-used Baby

AT design. ATX rotates the CPU and memory 90
degrees, allowing full-length boards in all sockets. The
power supply blows air over the CPU rather than
pulling air through the chassis.
