Introduction
Rationale
When the world is running hastily with advancement, time
is the undisputedly the most valuable resource of all. It becomes inevitable to
save the time by all possible means. In places such as shopping malls,
wholesale and retail outlets, automation is incorporated for the automatic delivery
of products to the customers. A vending machine is a machine that dispenses
items such as snacks, beverages, alcohol, cigarettes, lottery tickets, cologne,
consumer products and even gold and gems to customers automatically. After
the customer inserts any currency into the machine. For instance, the automatic
soft-drink vending machine, ice-cream vending machine, Chocolate vending
machine, cold-drink vending machine, etc. are mostly found to encroach the
shops nowadays, which reduces the time and also reduce the human effort
required to recognize, search, count and deliver the product along with the cash
handling. The Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) is the best example of all, for the
application of engineering principles to reduce time and human effort.

The Problem
Chapter 1 Introduction
As people continue to seek for convenience, more and more technologies
are invented. One of these technologies is the vending machine. Vending
machines come in different types as they are made for different purposes.
Vending Machines are rarely found in the market of Egypt and its industry hasnt
been made yet in addition to the increasing consumption of instant noodles within
different ages of people made the idea of designing & implementing an instant
noodles vending machine; the availability of investing in a new virgin field with
the knowhow of mechatronics can help in making this project a successful and a
practical realistic one. Before starting with details of the proposed project, we will
first talk about some facts and history about variety of vending machines.
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
Cold and Frozen Vending Machines: This type is for ice cream, pies and
other frozen foods. Typically, its features include triple pane heated glass that
eliminates condensation or frost. There is also an adjustable self-defrosting
cycles for a fast cool down and recovery. This machine is a great advantage
especially to those who crave for desserts. Like most vending machines, they
can accept both coins and bills.
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
Bulk Vending Machines These machines come in variety of sizes and
styles and they are entirely mechanical. Operation is done by placing coins and
turning a knob or pulling a lever. They can vend candies, chocolates and gum
balls. Bulk vending machines are usually found in department stores and malls
where they can attract children and passersby.
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
Coffee or Tea Vending Machines This vending machine has a state-of-theart brewing system and precise ingredient control to satisfy every customers
preference. In addition, it has instant or fresh brew configurations to dispense a
broad menu of specialty 7 coffees and teas. With this vending machine,
customers can drink their favorite coffee in just one touch.
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
Office Supplies Vending Machines If one forgets to bring a pen or pencil in
a very important appointment, theres no need to panic. These office supplies
vending machines can be found in public libraries, campuses, airports, and other
locations where office workers and students are likely to go. They display
stamps, pens, pencils, paper, USB flash drives and other important office and
school supplies. These machines are easy to load and dispense but the items
are usually a little more expensive than those in bookstores and convenience
stores.
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
Drink and Snack Vending Machine Snacks and beverage vending
machines are among the most common vending machines. They are usually
found in schools, offices, hospitals, airports and gasoline stations. This combo
machine features adjustable 8 trays allowing configuration for the top selling
products. People can buy varieties of snacks and drinks, from Potato Chips, to
cookies and candy. The soda drink side of the machine vends both cans and
bottles. Most of these machines can accept both coins and bills.
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
Entertainment Vending Machine Customers dont need to buy DVDs to
watch their favorite movies because the entertainment vending machines are
found in most fast food chains, restaurants, near entrance of department stores
and convenience stores. These machines typically hold more than 500 DVDs.
They become popular because they offer quick and cheaper entertainment. This
self-service machine is combined with interactive touch screen, a robotic disk
array system and a web-linked electronic communications. The customer pays
with a credit or debit card and returns the DVD on the next day. Additional
charges are applied if DVDs are not returned on their due dates.
vending machine will be discussed. The chapter will be mainly divided in to two
parts first the Literature review and the the theoretical background of the study.
2.2.1 Definition
Early 1880s, the first modern coin-operated vending machines that dispensing
post card were introduced in London, England. The first vending machine in the
U.S. was built in 1888 by the Thomas Adams Gum Company. The vending
machine dispensed a piece of tutti-frutti gum.
In late 1920 and 1930, higher price installed into the vending machine was
introduces. Example for the product that been sold in the vending that time is soft
drink and nickel-candy. In 1946, coffee vendors were developed and followed by
refrigerated sandwich vendors in 1950 Tony (2001).
Nowadays, many items can be found in vending machine such as clothing, milk,
cigarettes, postage stamps, cologne, baseball cards, books, live bait, comic
books, and many more. Some hi-tech vending machine can dispense hot foods
such as pizza, popcorn, French and burger.
server. The computer system, an Intel based Linux machine, runs its own web
server at http://pepsi.millersv.edu/ and is physically located inside the Pepsi B
machine.
However the team was able to described an experimental Java client server
system and a special purpose hardware interface to control a Pepsi B vending
machine over the World Wide Web. This system allows users with pre-paid
accounts to vend a soda from the Pepsi B machine (without any coins or bills)
using a web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer. Anyone with a web
browser may find out if any of his or her favorite sodas are left in the machine.
The Java server cannot the vending corporation, via email, when each soda
needs to be restocked. A special purpose hardware built at Millersville University,
to interface to the Dixie-Narco vending computer inside the Pepsi B machine has
also been described.
In this paper the author describes about LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) ",which

Input/output Interface
It is the collection of interfaces that different functional units (sub-systems) of an
information processing system use to communicate with each other, or the
signals (information) sent through those interfaces. Inputs are the signals
received by the unit, and outputs are the signals sent from it. I/O devices are
used by a person (or other system) to communicate with a computer. For
instance, keyboards and mice are considered input devices of a computer and
Peripheral Devices
It is a type of computer hardware that is added to a host computer in order to
expand its capabilities. More specifically the term is used to describe those
devices that are optional in nature, as opposed to hardware that is either
demanded, or always required in principle ("Peripheral", 2006).A peripheral is
any computer device that is not part of the essential computer but is situated
relatively close by. Some peripherals are mounted in the same case with the
main part of the computer, as are the hard disk drive, CD-ROM drive, and NIC.
Other peripherals are outside the computer case, such as the printer and image
scanner, attached by a wired or wireless connection.
Clock generator
It is a circuit that produces a timing signal (known as a clock signal and behaves
as such) for use in synchronizing a circuit's operation. It can range from a simple
symmetrical square wave to more complex arrangements. The basic part that all
clock generators share is a resonant circuit and an amplifier ("Clock generator",
2006).
RS232 Standard
RS-232 is a standard for serial binary data interconnection between a DTE (Data
terminal equipment) and a DCE (Data communication equipment). It is commonly
use din computer serial ports. The Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) standard
RS-232-C as of 1969 defines:
Electrical signal characteristics such as voltage levels, signaling rate, timing and
slew-rate of signals, voltage withstand level, short-circuit behavior, maximum
stray capacitance and cable length
Interface mechanical characteristics, pluggable connectors and pin identification
Functions of each circuit in the interface connector
Personal Error
Personal Errors may arise from a personal bias of the observer in reading an
instrument, in recording an observation, or his particular method of taking data,
As well as mistakes in mathematical calculations. Example of this error is the
taking of incorrect values from the measuring instruments caused by not looking
at the screen at a perpendicular angle. This may also be called Parallax Error
(Fontanilla, 2002).

SUMMARY, FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
Summary
This study was conducted to innovate the current Automatic Vending
Machine made by the class 3B of BSMx in CTU-MC, batch 2015-2016. The said
innovation would have to be able to dispense the chosen product automatically.
Eight (8) BSMx faculty members and Ten (10) BSMx students were
chosen as respondents in determining the acceptability levels of the project as to
functionality, reliability, usability, serviceability, and safety. The arithmetic mean
was used to interpret the data obtained. Specifically, its intended to determine the
technical specification the project especially regarding its precision and accuracy.
The projects design was based upon commercial Manually operated
hygiene vending machine and upon motor rotation monitoring, that is, in using
an Arduino uno to control its operation. After the project was constructed and
toubleshooted, its specification and acceptability were determined.
Findings
The following were the most significant findings of the study:
1. On the technical requirements in the development of the Digital
Measuring Wheel.
CHAPTER 4
Rationale
The BSMx 3-B, batch 2015-2016 of CTU-MC, made an automatic vending
machine. It basically consists of two geared motors and pushbutton that is
powered when the prescribed amount is inserted in the coinslot . The device
would display the amount inserted and would despense the product that the
costumer have choosen.
This study sought to improve the said device and would call it the
Automatic Vending Machine as it would be now used not only for several product
but would be used in the automation of dispensing industry. The improvements
include: automatic dispense system, powerless button if the prescribed amount is
not inserted, dispensing process will stop automatically if a product is dropped.
