Key Concepts and Questions to Be Able to Explain and Answer:
1. Describe the two theories for how Earths oceans developed.
2. List the common dissolved gases that are found in the ocean according to abundance. List
the common salts that are found in the ocean according to abundance.
3. Draw and label a graph to show how ocean temperature changes with depth.
4. What causes surface currents? Where do we find warm currents? Cold currents?
5. How do salinity and temperature affect the density of ocean water
6. Draw a picture to show how the water molecules in a wave move. Show how the energy of
the wave moves.
7. Describe how waves form. How do breakers form when they come in contact with the
coastline?
8. Describe a mid-ocean ridge, an abyssal plain, and an ocean trench.

4. Mrs. Froehlich will review your Unit Guide and determine the number of bonus points to be
added to your test. Bonus points will be granted based on correctness and completeness of
answers and definitions.
