Main Building University of Santo Tomas

Designed by a Spanish priest-civil engineer Rev. Fr. Roque Ruao in 1920 to 1923, the main
building of the Philippines oldest university is also the first earthquake resistant building in
the country.

St Mary's Cathedral

Kenzo Tange has built many impressive buildings in Tokyo, but St Mary's Cathedral is
arguably his finest work. Built in 1964, it is a soaring vision of stainless-steel-clad
abstraction.

Saint Peter's Basilica

St. Peter's Basilica, which is called in Italian "Basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano", is a large
church in the Vatican City, in Rome,Italy. A church was built here in the 4th century AD. The
building that stands here now was begun on April 18, 1506 and was finished in 1626.

Aqueduct of Segovia

Located on the Iberian Peninsula, the Aqueduct of Segovia still retains its structural
integrity to this day, making it one of the best preserved pieces of architecture from
ancient Rome.

Temple of Poseidon at Sounion

Located at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula in Greece, the Temple of Poseidon
at Sounion is surrounded on three sides by the sea. It was constructed in approx. 440 BC.

During the Neo-Assyrian Empire (c.883-612), large monumental bulls, often with wings and
always with human heads, were placed as gateway guardians at the entrances of royal
palaces like Khorsabad and Nineveh.

Bent Pyramid

Located at the royal necropolis of Dahshur, the Bent Pyramid was the second pyramid built
by Pharaoh Sneferu. The pyramid has a unique and mysterious structure, as its base rises
from the desert floor at an angle of 55 degrees and then shows an obvious change of a
more gradual angle of 43 degrees, which gives the pyramid its bent shape.

Reims Cathedral

Reims Cathedral was the church in which numerous French monarchs were officially
crowned. It was built on the site of the basilica where Clovis was baptized by Saint Remi,
bishop of Reims, in AD 496. The cathedral was completed by the end of the 13th century,
with the west front added in the 14th century.

Salk Institute

The Salk Institute continues to be acclaimed by architecture critics as one of the worlds
boldest structures. Completed in 1965 and now designated a historical site, the
Institute fulfills founder Dr. Jonas Salks vision of a facility with open, unobstructed
laboratory interiors set in a dramatic location that inspires creativity among its
researchers.
