Fault Codes
Erase DTC
IMPORTANT!
To erase any DTC the "Erase DTC" operation in Vodia
needs to be performed after the fault been repaired.
When the "Erase DTC" operation been performed the
system needs to be shut down in a proper way with
ignition off.
If the EATS system needs to be drained the ACM per-
forms an afterrun, then it can take up to 2 minutes
before the system has shut down properly. Only if the
system has been properly shut down the DTC will be
erased. If not erased properly an engine derate could
still be active.

Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low Bank 1
System: Fuel System
SPN [FMI]: 157 [1]
DTC node: EMS
Failure type: No Sub Type Information
DTC description: Too low rail pressure.
Monitoring condition: Running conditions
Fault indication: Red alarm status.
DTC stored: Yes
Replacement value: Yes
Symptom: Engine might shut down / Engine cranks but does not start.
DTC conditions: The rail pressure < 25 MPa for 1 second.
Probable cause: Closed fuel inlet valve.
Low fuel level.
Blocked fuel filters.
Deformed/restricted fuel hoses/fuel pipes.
Leakage in the fuel system.
Air in the fuel system. Air leakage in the low pressure system.
Faulty rail pressure sensor.
Faulty ePRV.
Faulty fuel pressure regulator (MPROP).
Faulty injectors, leakage in combustion chamber.
Action: 1 Check that the fuel inlet valve is open and that the fuel lines are correctly
connected. Check fuel level. Do a visual check of the fuel system for
squeezed hoses/pipes and for leakage. Change the fuel filters. Bleed
the fuel system.
2 Run the engine from a separate stand-alone fuel tank. Since the high
pressure pump is sucking the fuel from the tank, a search must be made
for air entry between the high pressure pump and the tank. Check for
air leakage.
3 Check all cables and connectors between the rail pressure sensor and
the EMS. Log the rail pressure by using Vodia or by performing a volt-
age measurement. P(norm at idle speed)=30-40 MPa, P(start) approx-
imately 20-30 MPa.
If the engine can be started, notice at what rail pressure the fault code
is set. If the engine cant be started, notice the rail pressure during
cranking.
4 Check all wiring and the connectors between the ePRV and the EMS.
Check the ePRV signal using oscilloscope.
5 Check all wiring and the connectors between the fuel pressure regulator
and the EMS. Check the fuel pressure regulator signal using oscillo-
scope.

Probable cause: The fuel pressure regulator is stuck open, fuel is leaking pass the fuel
pressure regulator. The reason can be a mechanical fault or an elec-
trical fault, open or short circuit to battery negative in the cables for the
fuel pressure regulator. Fuel pressure regulator is fully open at OC.
The ePRV is stuck close and the fuel pressure can not be released. The
ePRV is closed at OC.

DTC description: Too low rail pressure during cranking.
Monitoring condition: Cranking monitoring
Fault indication: Yellow alarm status.
DTC stored: Yes
Replacement value: None
Symptom: Engine cranks but does not start..
DTC conditions: Rail pressure increase insufficient during cranking.
Probable cause: Closed fuel cock.
Low fuel level.
Blocked fuel filter.
Leakage in the fuel system.
Air in the fuel system. Air leakage in the low pressure system.
Faulty rail pressure sensor.
Faulty/stuck open ePRV.
Low fuel level.
Faulty/stucked closed fuel pressure regulator (MPROP).
Blocked strainer/filter in high pressure pump tank inlet.
Blocked strainer/filter in high pressure pump fuel inlet (from fuel filter).
Faulty injectors, leakage in combustion chamber.
Action: 1 Check that the fuel inlet valve is open and that the fuel lines are correctly
connected. Check the fuel level. Do a visual check of the fuel system
for squeezed hoses/pipes and for leakage. Change the fuel filters.

pressure pump is sucking the fuel from the tank, a search must be made
for air entry between the high pressure pump and the tank. Check for
air leakage.

the EMS. Log the rail pressure by using Vodia or by performing a volt-
age measurement. P(norm at idle speed) = 30-40 MPa, P(start) approx-
imately 20-30 MPa. If the engine can be started, notice at what rail
pressure the fault code is set. If the engine cant be started, notice the
rail pressure during cranking.
4 Check all cables and connectors between the ePRV and the EMS.
Check the ePRV signal using oscilloscope. Check the fuel return from
the ePRV.
5 Check all cables and connectors between the fuel pressure regulator
(MPROP) and the EMS. Check the fuel pressure regulator (MPROP).

With the VODIA diagnostic tool the error memory of engine electronic device can be read out. Errors created by
the EATS system will also be monitored. In case of a malfunction of the system the error code given by the Vodia
tool can be analyzed with the help of the below shown table which includes a code for the main system parts.
