PROPORSAL FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A BETTER KAMPALA

INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY.

1. INTRODUCTION

Kampala International University, being a good university and one of the best private universities in
Uganda, there is still need to uplift its standards so as to explore the greatest heights of education and
success. Therefore this proposal intends to lift KIU from the level it is to a greater level by providing a
strategy through which the current challenges that are hindering the success of the university can be
solved.

Having noticed that KIU has the best resources like the library, structures, qualified personnels,it deserves
public recognition as the best home of education however this hasnt been achieved due to the
challenges within its administrative structures which if solved KIU will be the song of the day whenever
better education is thought about. If this proposal is welcomed and supported not even the sky will be
the limit for KIU as we explore the heights.

2.0 CHALLENGES OBSCURING KIU FROM BEING THE BEST UNIVERSITY

Though KIU has tried its best to provide the best education, it has faced a number of challenges which if
addressed no doubt it will be the best university, these include the following;

2.1 negative attitude of the people towards the university.

Despite the fact that KIU has provided its good services 80% of the public havent got a positive attitude
towards it. If one attains a masters degree from KIU in good faith, still the public thinks of it being
forgery and fake which is not the fact.

Even the students themselves arent not proud of their university due to the public opinion towards
it.students from Makerere ,UCU,kyambogo, nkozi are proud to speak of their universities which has
marketed them as opposed to KIU where students feel embarrassed to speak of it.

This is the worst thing that a business or institution can ever face because the clients or students will
always be there because they lack an alternative.

My appeal to KIU is that it addresses this problem as soon as possible in order for it to be a choice for
everyone.

2.2 admission process

KIU being a private university among other reasons is profit maximization but this shouldnt overpower
other reasons like quality service delivery. Therefore KIU should look critically in its admission process to
ensure that profits are made as well as delivering the best services because all are possible
simultaneously by adjusting on the admission process. Quality will always be better than quantity at all
times.

The fact that KIU is interested in the quantity [large number of students], it has been forced to take
students with low grades and give them courses of their choice which in reality dont deserve. This has
made the public loose trust in KIU which explains why we are having an increasing number of
international students than citizens.

To be specific, the admission process of law students is also a serious setback to the success of KIU,
while other universities give pre-entry exams to law students, KIU never does so, this makes the public
think that it is an inferior university with inferior people who have failed to go through in UCU and
makerere pre-entries.

Therefore KIU needs to adjust its admission process in order to explorer the greatest heights as
proposed by this proposal.

2.3 finance system

KIUs finance system is very favorable to the institution itself but unfavorable to the citizens of Uganda.
While majority praised KIU for the bursary scheme system, its goodness is being swallowed by the late
payment charge system making the bursary scheme a mere bait to attract students but not help them.
The bursaries are responsible for the increasing number of Ugandans in KIU however if they discovered
the loophole in the system this is likely to affect KIU negatively.

The payment of the workers is always the first step to the success of any institution. Pay your workers
well, they will be hardworking, faithful, and motivated. Therefore if KIU is to get the best out of its
personnel, it needs to motivate them through incentives.

2.4 The level of competition

The world today operates like 99% on competition where the winner takes it all therefore for KIU to
stand out to be the best, it must highly compete with the rest.to be specific, more efforts are required in
the academics sector. This is the only way we can convince the public that we are the best by indeed
challenging the rest publically and academically.

If the above challenges are given attention and addressed, KIU will be the best university in Uganda
likewise internationally.

3. STRATEGY TO OVERCOME AND SOLVE THE CHALLENGES.

3.1 changing the attitude of the people towards the university. This is through making things that have
made the public have a negative attitude right.

3.2 start pre-entry exams for law students. This will help in creating confidence among students and
the public at large that the students are worthy the course and one can rely on them. Likewise to other
course, better pass marks should be set so as to have the best candidates for the courses.

International students should critically be analyzed before being admitted in KIU.this is because most of
them attain qualifications in KIU and when they return home their governments consider their
qualifications fake which has reigned the universitys image internationally.

3.3 adjust on the finance policies. This can be through reducing the late payment charges from an
interval of per two weeks to at least per month so that the positive impact of the bursary can be seen
and felt.
3.4 clear definition of the bursary scheme.KIU should clearly define who the bursary should be given to
and the qualifications of attaining it. The problem today is that the bursary is too open that it is losing
sense and causing confusion since districts are sending more students than the required number due to
the fact that there are no clear guidelines of the bursary.

3.5 engaging favorably in the inter-university competitions.

These competitions, are what proves who the best is. The people who win in moot courts prove that
their university is the best in law and the public believes so.therefore KIU should support massively
students competition activities like debates, clubs, sports, moot courts etc. s0 as t0 pr0ve to the w0rld
its go0d work.

Lastly, general motivation of the students by the student leaders also needs t0 be done so as to change
the attitude of the students t0wards their 0wn university.

In c0nclusion, if this proposal is welcomed and supported through funding more research and its
implementation, KIU will transform to its dreams.
