    Basic Booties

    This pattern is to make a pair of simple, basic, stay-on booties. The booties are worked in the round from the
    sole up to the cuff. You only need to sew up a very small seam at the sole.

    You can either make these booties using double pointed needles or using long circular needles with Magic Loop
    method. If you are new to the Magic Loop, here is a link to a very good tutorial:

    SIZES AVAILABLE:
    Newborn [6 months, 12 months]

    LENGTH OF SOLE:
    3 [4, 4] inch / 9 [10, 11.5] cm

    GAUGE:
    20 stitches = 4 in stockinette stitch

    NEEDLES & YARN:


    US #6 / 4.0mm needles
    US #4 / 3.5mm needles
    46 [60, 80] yards / 42 [55, 73] meters of DK weight yarn

    ABBREVIATIONS AND GLOSSARY:


    K: knit.
    M1-R: with left needle, pick up strand between the last stitch worked and the next stitch on the left needle from
    back to front, knit into it through front loop.
    M1-L: with left needle, pick up strand between the last stitch worked and the next stitch on the left needle from
    front to back, knit into it through back loop.
    K2tog: knit 2 stitches together.
    SSK: slip the next 2 stitches knit wise, one by one, then return both to left needle. Knit these 2 stitches together
    through back loop.

    PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS:
    With the larger needle, cast on 26 [32, 38] stitches using Long Tail Cast-on with the tail about 25 [30, 35] inches
    long. That should leave you with enough length to the tail for sewing of the sole later.
    Join in the round, be careful not to twist the stitches.

    Round 1: Knit.
    Round 2: *K1, M1-L, K11 [14, 17], M1-R, K1; repeat from * once more. 30 [36, 42] stitches
    Round 3: Knit.
    Round 4: *K1, M1-L, K1, M1-L, K11 [14, 17], M1-R, K1, M1-R, K1; repeat from * once more. 38 [44, 50] stitches
    Round 5: Knit.
    Round 6: *K2, M1-L, K2, M1-L, K11 [14, 17], M1-R, K2, M1-R, K2; repeat from * once more. 46 [52, 58] stitches
    Round 7 Round 11: Knit.
    Round 12: K15 [18, 21], SSK, SSK, SSK, SSK, K2tog, K2tog, K2tog, K2tog, K15 [18, 21]. 38 [44, 50] stitches
    Round 13: Knit.
    Round 14: K11 [14, 17], SSK, SSK, SSK, K4, K2tog, K2tog, K2tog, K11 [14, 17]. 32 [38, 44] stitches
    Round 15: Knit.
    Round 16: K10 [13, 16], SSK, SSK, K4, K2tog, K2tog, K10 [13, 16]. 28 [34, 40] stitches
    Round 17: Knit.

    Size 6 months, work 2 more rounds as follows: Size 12 months, work 2 more rounds as follows:
    Round 18: K13, SSK, K4, K2tog, K13. Round 18: K14, SSK, SSK, K4, K2tog, K2tog, K14.
    Round 19: Knit. Round 19: Knit.

    Stitch count: 28 [32, 36] stitches

    All sizes, work the cuff as follows:


    With smaller needles, *(K2, P2), repeat * to end of round.
    Continue to work 2 x 2 ribbing for 2 [2, 3] inches, then BO loosely.

    Make a second identical bootie.

    FINISHING:
    Sew up bottom seam using the long tail from the cast on. Weave in ends.
