FAQ

Below are answers to the most frequently asked General, ABN and WWCC questions.

General Questions:
I might be moving to a different area soon, does this matter?

You’ll need to let us know your new address so that we can start looking for students in your new
area instead of the old one.

If you have students and are moving too far away to continue seeing them you need to give both Ezy
Math and the client at least three week’s notice so that we can organise a replaceme nt tutor for
you.

Can I work with other tutoring agencies?

You’re welcome to work at other jobs, including other tutoring agencies. The only condition is that
you don’t let other positions get in the way of commitments that you have made to students that
we have sourced for you - if you chose to accept a student make sure you have sufficient
availability to provide consistent service.

When will I start seeing students?

It’s difficult to say when you’ll start tutoring because there are a number of variables involved, such
as the number of school children that live around your area, your availability, subjects you can tutor,
grade levels you can tutor and specific client preferences. We will be sure to let you know as soon as
student becomes available.

How long will the sessions be?

That really depends on what the parents want, but usually an hour or an hour and a half per week.
Either way, we’ll let you know when we call you to tell you about the student. The length of
lessons is something that can be changed to suit the client if they are willing and while usually
tutoring starts with 1hr/week, once the client trusts you feel free to discuss possible changes if you
think it will help the student.
What happens if I don’t have time to tutor during uni exams?

Parents are generally quite understanding of their tutor being at university. You should tell them
ahead of time that your schedule will be different so that you can work around it, perhaps by seeing
the student a bit less during exams and then having some make up tutorials afterwards. If the parent
still wants to see a tutor at their regular time, have them c all us so that we can organise a temporary
replacement while you’re unavailable. In general, good time management on your part and good
communication with your clients can prevent any problems in this regard.

ABN:
Why do I need an ABN?

As expressed in the Deed agreement, Ezy Math Tutoring carries on a business sourcing students for
tutors and providing administrative services to you. As such, you are not a direct employee of the
company but working as an independent contractor and need an ABN.

I already have an ABN, can I use it for the work i get through Ezy Math Tutoring?

If you have an active ABN that was obtained for contracting purposes then you are welcome to use
the same one, you’ll just need to let us know what it is.

Please note that the ABN must be registered to your name; the ABN of a family member or
somewhere else that you worked in the past is not acceptable.

I don’t have a TFN, what should I do?

You need a TFN in order to apply for the ABN. You need to apply for a TFN as soon as possible
because it takes several weeks to be issued. You should also send an email along with the deed to
explain the situation.

Working With Children Check:

Do I need to pay for WWCC myself?

Ezy Math Tutoring does not reimburse tutors for the cos t of the working with children check. I would
encourage you to consider that the check lasts for several years and allows you to work in any child
related employment, with any copmany you chose to work with and is a nice addition to a resume.

I already have a WWCC, can I use it for the students you source as well?

That depends on the check you’ve got at the moment. There are two types of checks – one for
volunteering and one for paid work. Since you will be getting paid for tutoring, it is essential f or you
to have an employee/contractor check. As such, we can accept an existing employee/contractor check
but not an existing volunteer check.
I recently moved cities and have a WWCC from where I used to live, is that OK?

The working with children check is managed at a state level. As such, you must have a check in the
state in which you will actually be working.

I am a registered teacher, do I still need the WWCC?

This depends which state you live in, here’s a breakdown of each state.
 NSW: Registered teachers are not exempt from the check.
 VIC: Registered teachers are exempt and you will need to send us a copy of your VIT card.
 QLD: Registered teachers will need to apply for an exemption from the check; send me an
email to let me know you’re a teacher and I’ll send you a signed exemption form.
 WA: Registered teachers are not exempt from the check.
 SA: Registered teachers are not exempt from the check.

Perth: How can I get sections 6 and 7 completed and signed?

Since you’ll be working as a contractor, you need to tick “self -employed” in section 5. As a result,
sections 6 and 7 can be left blank.

Sydney: I got an employee WWCC a few years ago that was free, why can’t I use that?

The working with children check system was changed in 2013 and the Office of the Children’s
Guardian is currently in the process of moving everyone from the old system to the new one. One
way that do that is that you need to apply for a new check when you start in a new position. The old
check is therefore invalid and you will need the new one.
