1. Juan Luna- painter and revolutionary activist. He is best known for his Spoliarium, his painting that gave
him the gold medal in the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1884.
2. Fernando Amorsolo- famous for his rural landscape paintings and his mastery in the use of light.
TINIKLING
Renowned as the First Contemporary Filipino Artist, Amorsolo painted the Philippine landscape
in sunny and colorful depictions that idealized both nature and native beauty. Using techniques of natural
outdoor lighting and taking from the Impressionists of Europe, he mastered the skill of natural lighting in
his paintings, and this trademark was later called his mastery of the "Philippine Sun."
3. Vicente Manansala- painter famous for his style of Cubism. Like Amorsolo, Manansala is also a National
Artist for Visual Arts.
4. BenCab (Benedicto Cabrera)- the "artist-activist", BenCab was awarded the National Artist for Visual
Arts in 2006.
5. Botong Francisco- also a National Artist for Visual Arts awardee. He is famous for his murals. He also
discovered the Angono Petroglyphs in 1965.
A NATION IMAGINED
Carlos Botong Francisco: A Nation Imagined is the latest art installation at
the AyalaMuseum in Makati to celebrate the 100th birthday anniversary of Carlos “Botong” Francisco
(1912-1969), a Philippine National Artist. Forty paintings and lithographs were culled from various private
collections to form this exhibition.
