Welcome to the Neighborhood

“Often when you think you’re at the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else.” – Fred
Rogers.

Explore the welcoming neighborhoods of everyone’s old friend Mister Rogers and new favorite Daniel
Tiger. Find reminders of these beloved characters throughout Pittsburgh, the original home of Mister
Rogers’ Neighborhood famed television show—and now its PBS predecessor, Daniel Tiger’s
Neighborhood.

For an integrated display of Mister Rogers’ legacy and Daniel Tiger’s new community, explore the award-
winning Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Be greeted by Daniel and friends and explore the entire
museum to find memorialized pieces from the original Mister Rogers set. Starting June X, visit the brand
new Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood exhibit your children will love!

Stop by the Senator John Heinz History Center for a Mister Rogers’ exhibit displaying the show’s classic
heritage with hundreds of authentic items dating back to the 1950’s, as well as, a full sized recreation of
the memorable set. The combination of a beautiful riverfront view and encapsulating outdoor display
makes the “Tribute to Children,” a large bronze statue of Mister Roger’s a must visit sight as well.

Head 50 miles east of Pittsburgh to Idlewild Park to take a ride on its newest attraction, Daniel Tiger’s
Neighborhood Trolley Ride! Experience the loving community Mister Rogers built as children interact
and sing with Daniel Tiger’s array of friends throughout the fun-filled ride.

Culture Club

Pittsburgh’s thriving arts scene goes all in this summer. Andy Warhol / Ai Weiwei exhibit at The Andy
Warhol Museum as a must see for social contemporary art enthusiasts.

June 4- August 28 discover all eight floors and compare Warhol’s multi-platform Pop Art to Chinese 21st
century artist Ai Weiwei’s global activism inspired work. Three hundred pieces of art in the form of
painting, sculpture, photography, and interactive new media will be on display as a monumental
exchange between the two globally influential artists are set to be explored.

Relish in the staple of the fashion world at the Killer Heels showcase coming to The Frick from June 11
through September 4. From Chinese cotton and silk platforms of the 19th century to straight-off-the-
runway 21st century Prada stilettos, this diverse display of architectural foot fashion may make your feet
ache but is sure to impress.

Matilda “Be Outrageous”

Roald Dahl’s Matilda is brought to life in Matilda the Musical coming to Pittsburgh May 31- June 12.
With fifty international awards including four Tony’s in her pocket, Matilda is dazzling audiences
globally. Perfect for the family audience and TIME Magazine’s #1 Show of the Year, this boldly
imaginative musical is a must see while it is at the Benedum Center of Pittsburgh!

Race City

Through snow and over bridges local runners have been prepping for the much anticipated Pittsburgh
Marathon Sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods. Taking place May 1, the many other athletes traveling
for the event may not be acclimated to Pittsburgh’s unique terrain. The marathon is set to trek over
Pittsburgh’s three rivers and five different bridges with matchless city views. Celebrated throughout the
“City of Neighborhoods” outdoor attractions will be bustling with friends and family to watch the race.

Love to run but like to keep it short and quick? For all ages and abilities the GNC Live Well Liberty Mile is
a one-of-a-kind, single mile road race in upbeat Downtown Pittsburgh. The 4th annual race features
professional as well as recreational runners and awards over $25,000 in prize money.

In for the long haul? The weekend of August 7-9 hosts the Pittsburgh Triathlon & Adventure Race! The
long but incredibly scenic tour of Pittsburgh highlights Three Rivers Heritage Trail and Three Rivers
Water Trail. This full scheduled event features the International Distance Triathlon Course, Sprint
Distance Triathlon Course, and Adventure Race Course. The Adventure Race Course entails a two mile
kayak paddle instead of swim.

Celebrations

Rev up your engines! The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Pix is an entire race week dedicated to classical
vehicle appreciation and the speed-demon in us all! The week starts with a Blacktie & Tailpipes Gala
benefiting the PVGP charities and ends with a Countryside Tour and Cars & Guitars Concert at the Hard
Rock Cafe in Station Square. Don’t miss the vintage car racing and invitational car shows during the
exciting week, July 8-17.

Everyone’s favorite summer holiday would be nothing in Pittsburgh without Three Rivers Regatta. You
Gotta Regatta! is the 4th of July holiday spectacular jam packed with family fun. The three day event
schedule includes anticipated concerts, water sport fun on the river, food trucks, and vender markets.

Summer Concert Lineup “The Sound of the Summer”

From blues to country, this summer is unlikely to disappoint in the entertainment scene. The
Independence Day celebrations bring big names to our steel city. July 1 Grammy Legend Award recipient
Billy Joel is set to take the stage for the first time at PNC Park. July 4 country star Kenny Chesney is to
perform at Heinz Field.

Coming to CONSOL Energy Center July 26 Janet Jackson will put on an incredible show for the young at
heart. Other artists consist of country sensation Jason Aldean to perform at the Erie Insurance Arena
May 5. Classics Journey and The Doobie Brothers are at First Niagara Pavilion July 16 with singer, writer,
and producer Josh Groban featuring Sarah McLachlan to follow on August 2.
With long-standing blues roots, Pittsburgh is the perfect location for the weekend long festival featuring
a full lineup of national and local musicians. The 21st Annual Pittsburgh Blues Festival is set for July 24-
26 and will provide the perfect summer festival atmosphere. The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food
Bank hosts this event raising over $2 million to fight hunger in Pittsburgh in the past 20 years of the
festival’s running.

Al Fresco Dining

Cultured and refined Downtown Pittsburgh has much to offer when it comes to food and atmosphere.
Fairmont Pittsburgh’s Andy’s Wine Bar is a sophisticated but casual lunch location. Edie Merlot’s is the
All-American Steak house with a collaborative urban and green feel. The revamped G2 Noodles has a
unique menu with a social and upbeat patio dining area. For Downtown rooftop dining with a city view
visit Six Penn Kitchen in the bustling Cultural District and Sienna Mercato’s Il Tetto equipped with
twinkling lights and 32 beers on tap.

Across the 10th Bridge in Southside is the Double Wide Grille. A former auto repair shop-turned-
restaurant, this location is perfect for the family and includes an outdoor dog patio. In Southside Works
Hofbrauhaus, Pittsburgh’s German treasure, has a large beer garden overlooking the river.

A visit to cozy, upscale Shadyside provides many options for scenic outdoor dining. Shady Grove
Restaurant & Bar is perfect for a lunch or dinner with friends. At Open Bottle Bistro sip on fine wines in
a split-level patio with a coy pond and blooming greenery.

For foodies seeking a social al fresco dining experience the Strip District is known as the cultured food
district of Pittsburgh. A few locations to delight in are Eleven Contemporary Kitchen, Kaya and Savoy.

For brilliant overlook views, Andrew’s Steak & Seafood at the Three Rivers Casino glories in the Ohio
River and North Shore. The Grandview Saloon sits atop Mt. Washington with a skyline view. Out of the
Fire Café of Donegal has a decorated menu and beautiful panoramic vista of the hilled country side.
