David Foster

Hi, Maria. I have a small request. I've just arrived at Water River Station for a customer
meeting at 3 P.M., but I forgot to bring the directions and map for the company.

2:42 P.M.
Maria Malone

Oh, what are you doing? What company are you going to?

2:44 P.M.
David Foster

KLY Co. It's the leading pharmaceutical company in Europe. We're selling office
furniture for its headquarters and other branches.

2:46 P.M.
Maria Malone

Wow, you must arrive at the office on time. We may lose a valuable opportunity. Give
me a second.

2:46 P.M.
David Foster

Thanks a lot.

2:47 P.M.
Maria Malone

OK. You're lucky. The company is one minute from the east exit and on the second floor
of the KLY Building. Go left at the exit.

2:48 P.M.
David Foster

Great! I can't thank you enough.

Fernando’s Place Opens a New Location Downtown

By Tom Taylor (staff writer)

BRIDGEVIEW CITY – A popular downtown Brazilian restaurant has just added a

second location.

Fernando’s Place, a lunch-time favorite in the city center, has opened a new storefront
location at 17 Birch Street, near Metro Railway’s main station. The new location, called
Restaurante Dois, has been one of the most anticipated restaurant openings in the area
because the original Fernando’s Place, located at 25 Jackson Street, was an instant
success when it opened five years ago. City Life Magazine even called it “the best
Brazilian restaurant to open in Bridgeview City,” a remarkable statement in that its main
competition came from the well-liked Amazonas Bistro and Iguassu Inn (now closed).
However, Amazonas Bistro, the city’s first Brazilian eatery, does not serve the
downtown community.

Fernando’s Place boasts an affordable lunch menu that especially appeals to students
from nearby Franklin University. Its founder, Fernando Melo, hopes more people will
check out Restaurante Dois, which, unlike the original location, offers a traditional
Brazilian breakfast menu between 7 A.M. and 10 A.M. “Both locations let you
experience something unique,” Mr. Melo explained. “They are decorated in green tones
and have tropical plants, so you can be transported to an exotic setting while eating
your meal.”

Mr. Melo is excited about the expansion. “It’s a risk,” he said. “But it is best to take risks
while you are still young.” A well-known member of the local dramatic community, Mr.
Melo spoke to me as he was getting ready to act in tonight’s performance of the play
High Hopes. “I will check in with the staff at both restaurants after the show is over.
They are great employees, and they will treat guests like family.”

Hi Donna,

Well, it looks like our in-store sales here at Chessie’s Crafts are up again, thanks to all the extra
inventory we finally added last week. Our sales tracking software tells us that Jane Smith’s line
of greeting card kits is selling particularly well and her newest one, the Creator Kit, is nearly
sold-out. One local newspaper, The Herald, just published an article about her craft products, and
that’s helping our sales, too. Great news!

There’s one thing we still need to do. I just spoke to Anne Murdoch, our regional sales director,
and she says our online sales are still flat. But she does want us to go ahead with preliminary
research into advertising on a Web site. Our maximum monthly online ad budget would be $125,
on a pay-by-the-month plan–she doesn’t want to pay in advance for more than 3 or 4 months at a
time. Within those conditions, she wants us to advertise on the site that gets the most visits.

I remember you used a research firm to look into this before. Could you check it out again, with
these criteria? You can charge any fees to our corporate account.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Andy
