Mrs. Baker,

A review of Washington County Public School’s internal job openings indicates that WCPS is seeking qualified
applicants for anticipated assistant principal vacancies for the 2019-2020 school year for elementary, middle,
and high school. With this letter, please consider me a candidate for this vacancy.

It is with great enthusiasm that I apply for the position of assistant principal for Washington County Public
Schools. I feel very fortunate to be part of the WCPS family and our revolutionary design of curriculum and
instruction over the past several years. Not only have I seen the innovative implications of integrating the
Essential Curriculum with technology, but also how it inspires teachers to meet the rigorous demands of the
Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards. During my tenor at Washington County Public Schools I
have participated and facilitated a number of district professional development sessions that has provided me
with the opportunity to have a strong understanding of an Understanding by Design curriculum that utilizes
formative assessment to make sound instructional decisions.

Throughout the past several years I have also developed strong relationships with our outstanding content
specialists participating in several years of Essential Curriculum revisions. Curriculum design and innovative
teaching has become a passion of mine. Additionally, I have found tremendous joy in coaching colleagues as
they make their own instructional decisions to meet the needs of their students. As an ambitious educator, I
regularly seek out resources to learn about the newest trends in instruction, pedagogy, and assessment. I have
also facilitated discussions and professional development opportunities for other teachers across our district, and
hosted a web seminar on the national level through the National Science Teachers Association. I believe strong
instruction stems from a deep understanding of each standard and our curriculum.

My role as a professional educator is to inspire teachers and students. In the assistant principal role I will not
only be able to inspire students but even more importantly, I will get the opportunity to work with and inspire
teachers. I am fortunate to have a variety of grade level experiences that have led to an even deeper
understanding of the Essential Curriculum and delivering UBD instruction. I believe in supporting teachers by
getting into the classrooms and doing the work with them. Through collaboration and an open door policy I can
serve all stakeholders in the educational environment. Furthermore, I always serve others with a professional
demeanor that exemplifies strong ethics, integrity, and responsibility.

Respectfully,
Scott Wildesen
