Letter To Judge Berman Jackson From J. Whitfield Larrabee
J . W HITFIELD L ARRABEE
TRIAL AND APPELLATE LAWYER
229 HARVARD STREET
BROOKLINE, MASSACHUSETTS 02446
United States of America v. Paul J. Manafort, Jr., Criminal Action No. 17-0201-01 (ABJ)
Judge T. S. Ellis recently credited Mr. Manafort for having graduated from Georgetown
Law School in a sentencing hearing. Mr. Manafort should not be credited for his background as a
law graduate and lawyer because he abused his training and position. Mr. Manafort is a disgrace
to his law school and to the legal profession. This is shown by his resignation, permanent
disbarment and criminal convictions. His education in the law and his professional standing as a
lawyer are not things we should applaud.
I request that you consider Mr. Manafort’s training in the law and background as lawyer
to be factors that support a longer sentence. He had a superior capacity to know the law and to
avoid violating the law as a licensed attorney and law school graduate. Mr. Manafort used his
superior knowledge of the law to commit crimes and to avoid responsibility for his crimes.
