HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF CAGAYAN STATE UNIVERSITY AT APARRI

The Municipality of Aparri is located at the Northern part of Cagayan along the
coast where the Cagayan River and the Babuyan Channel meet. The Cagayan State
University-Aparri Campus is situated at Barangay Maura, some two kilometers eastern part
of the poblacion.

The college started as secondary school of fisheries under the direct administrative
supervision of the commissioner of the Philippines Fisheries Commission, Department of
Agriculture and Natural Resources, with an authorized appropriation of Php50,000.00
provided in the R.A. 685 which was enacted by the Congress of the Philippines on May 9,
1952. In accordance with this Act, a plan was formulated to established the Aparri School
of Fisheries but due to financial constraint, it was deferred; however, the local officials
(municipal and provincial) made proper presentation to authorities to realize its plan to put
up the school, since the Fisheries commission was not able to do, so much so, that during
the reorganization of all government offices in 1956, the problem of implementing R.A
685 became the responsibility of the Bureau of Public Schools.

Now, the campus has seven colleges namely: Fisheries and Marine Science,
Hospitality Industry Management, Industrial Technology, Information and Computing
Science, Teacher Education, Accountancy and Information Science and the Graduate
School.

This campus has growth quite enormously because of the zero tuition scheme and
tremendous infrastructure development.

May 9, 1952- The Cagayan State University at Aparri was formerly the Aparri School of
Fisheries, which was established through Republic Act No. 685 Sec. No. 10 of the
Philippines establishing a school under direct administrative supervision of the
Commissioner of the Philippine Fisheries, DANR.

January 12, 1957- Due to reorganization of all government offices in 1956, the school
was transferred by the Bureau of Public Schools, Department of Education.

June 1, 1958- The school was named Aparri School of Fisheries, offering the secondary
fisheries curriculum.

July 1971- It was converted to Aparri College of Fisheries by virtue of Republic Act No.
3755.

February 20, 1974- The College expand its program by opening the four-year college
course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries Education (BSFE)
beginning the first semester.

SY 1974-75- Bachelor of Science and Fisheries Education was duly implemented.

APRIL 18, 1975- The College further expand its program by offering four-year fishery
technological course curriculum leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries
(BFP) effective first semester of school year 1875-1976.

SY 1975-76- immediately, the College offered Bachelor of Science in Fisheries.

MARCH 21, 1978- The Aparri college of Fisheries was changed to Aparri Institute of
Technology was one among the seven recipients of Regional Institute of Fisheries
Technology (RIFT).

June 11, 1978- presidential decree no.1436 provided the transfer of the college that merged
CVCAT, NLUSCA, and other vocational institutions that included Aparri Institute of
Technology, into Cagayan State University (CSU).

September 29, 1979- the Board of Regents authorized the transfer of college courses of
Aparri School of Arts and Trades (ASAT) to AIT Campus.

1983- Implementation of the program of the Regional Institute of Fisheries Technology


(RIFT) the diploma in Fisheries Technology and closing temporarily the program of
Bachelor of Fisheries (BSF).

1988- Re-opening of the course of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries when the RIFT
program, Diploma in Fisheries Technology was terminated.

JUNE 2005- The inclusion of the program Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and
remaining the College to College of fisheries and Marine Science.
