Strobel Orchestra Student Support Fund


2019 Awards

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for students in the UGA Symphony Orchestra. Support shall
include, but not be limited to, awards for student participants, student travel/touring, workshops and master
classes, and other activities or expenditures that directly benefit students in the orchestra program in the Hugh
Hodgson School of Music (“School”). Recipients of awards from the Strobel fund shall be active members of the
Orchestra, recommended by the Director of Orchestras and faculty scholarship committee to the Director of the
School. They shall recognize outstanding talent and demonstrated dedication. All expenditures from this Fund
shall adhere to the spending limit policy as set forth by the Foundation as the same may be modified from time to
time by the Foundation.

Funding will be awarded for activity that occurred during Fall ’18 and Spring ’19 semesters. You must have been enrolled in
orchestra or orchestra/wind ensemble rotation. You may also apply for summer activity as long as you meet the enrollment
requirement. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY 5:00 pm, Tuesday, April 16, 2019. You may place them in Mr. Cedel’s
mailbox or hand deliver it.

TYPES OF AWARDS

TRAINING would include study and working with an established orchestra professional. This can be one on one contact or
group seminars or workshops. Repertoire to be studied will be orchestra excerpts. It can also be used for study of solo
repertoire if that repertoire is part of an audition the student is preparing.

AUDITIONS would be travel assistance to participate in qualified auditions. This will include auditions for orchestra full-
time positions, substitute lists or qualified orchestra festivals or programs. Also included can be expenses in producing a
professional recording or video to be used for audition screening.

FESTIVALS AND PROGRAMS would include programs and summer festivals that are predominately orchestra (Brevard,
Tanglewood, Aspen, Chicago Civic, New World, etc.). Awards can be used for tuition, travel and living expenses.

Awards will be paid upon completion of the event and with documentation of actual expenses incurred.
