Closer Look: DJ K Grady and NarQos

Club Corbett, JasCity Entertainment, No Face No Case: these are all phrases that you
have probably heard before and associate with N.C. A&T’s official campus DJ, Kenneth Grady
and host Shakari “NarQos” Jackson.

The dynamic duo can be seen hyping up the crowd at basketball games, various party
scenes in downtown Greensboro or walking to their classes. DJ K Grady and NarQos the Host
are commonly known for their friendship, business partnership and interaction with crowds
during events.

At five years old, before he was known as the “go-to” DJ, Grady practiced on his own
equipment in his living room as he imagined big crowds of people with him. His arrival in
Greensboro his freshman year prompted Grady to play mixes at house parties for free until he
received his first big event: opening for DJ Trellz and DJ Luke Nasty.

Unlike Grady, Jackson began his hosting career during the summer before his senior year
at N.C. A&T where he met Grady and became his manager. He was able to host his first event at
SUAB’s Aggie Market Friday. This led Jackson to a life changing opportunity to host Karaoke
Night during the Greatest Homecoming on Earth (GHOE).

“Hosting had always been a thought. I brought it up to Grady and Devin Pass (DP the
MC) one day and they had faith in me as long as I was invested and serious,” said Jackson,
sports science fitness management student.

Shortly after Grady and Jackson met each other, Grady offered Jackson to live with him
before they even became friends. Throughout the 2017-2018 academic school year, the two
created a friendship like no other that continues to grow with time.

“It doesn’t take me long to see people for who they are, and our first real conversation
was genuine. From there, our friendship grew, and I love him. That’s my brother, and I would
die for him,” said Grady, mass communication and marketing student.

Although the two have formed a brotherhood, they both desire to present their own
identities. Jackson is a part of the Mu Psi chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated.
Meanwhile, Grady has traveled coast to coast to share his art of music.

Both have recognized their strengths and weaknesses while collaborating. Crowd control
and loving people are two skills they pride themselves on. Jackson recalled a time where the two
hosted a party and played music they knew would get the crowd hype. However, that hypeness
turned into negativity when people began arguing. As a result, Grady changed the music to songs
that women in the crowd loved to resolve the issue.

Along with crowd control, the duo met their greatest challenge when they hosted their
first student event together. Club Corbett, a new name given to Corbett Gymnasium, was their
way to increase student attendance throughout basketball season. From old school sing-alongs to
halftime gospel mixes, Grady and Jackson desired to cater to all ages.

“It was new to us. I never DJed a basketball game and he never hosted one. We both had
to learn how to entertain alum, children and students. Student events are a lot different from
parties, so we had to learn that and build chemistry,” said Grady.

Grady and Jackson are just two members of the JasCity Entertainment team. Within the
team are a variety of DJs, hosts and even fashion designers. The group is constantly mistaken for
a promotion team, but it is the complete opposite. JasCity Entertainment was formed after the
death of Grady’s twin sister, Jasmin and is the nickname for Grady’s home city of Wilmington,
NC. Grady and the rest of the team desire to continue on Jasmin’s legacy while also creating
long lasting memories.

While they cannot release information on upcoming events for the campus of N.C. A&T,
they do say the anticipation of events for the spring semester will soon be over as they have a lot
in store. In the future, they have plans for themselves career wise that include trusting their own
processes. Grady plans to advance his audience in hopes of DJing for concerts all over the world.
Jackson describes himself as “multi-talented” and desires to continue crafting his different
passions.

“We are not content with where we are right now. We are blessed, but this is not the end
for us. We’re going to go wherever God wants us to go,” said Jackson.
