WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN COLLEGE

Women's Christian College, Chennai ranked 10th at the All India level among the best
colleges in the Arts and Science category in the NIRF rating by the Ministry for Human
Resource Development was founded in 1915 by the combined effort of 12 Missionary
Societies from Britain, Canada and the United States of America. The mission of the college
is to provide “a complete, meaningful and relevant education to women so that they are
intellectually well-trained, morally upright, socially aware and spiritually inspired.”

Autonomous since 1982, WCC is affiliated to the University of Madras and has been
accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ Grade in 2005 and 2012. The College was awarded the
prestigious status of College with Potential for Excellence by the University Grants
Commission (UGC) in 2016, a fitting testimony to the remarkable progress made in the last
century.

The heritage Doveton House, historic academic blocks, six residential halls and the multi-
facility Library enhance teaching-learning experience. Home to more than a 100 species of
trees, both indigenous and exotic, the 20-acre green campus is a treasure-trove of diverse
flora and fauna providing an ambience conducive to fostering holistic education. WCC offers
a wide range of metacognitive and need-based programs at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate
and Research levels to women from national and regional communities and varied socio-
economic backgrounds. The College designs its curriculum, administers examinations and
evaluates its students efficiently. Offering its students the Choice Based Credit System
(CBCS), WCC caters to the wide range of interests among students. The Degree is conferred
by the University of Madras.

The American Transfer Program (ATP) with Concordia College, New York, USA & Britain
Transfer Program (BTP) with Middlesex University, London, UK are International programs
introduced in the last decade. Candidates securing admission in WCC will be considered for
transfer if they fulfill the requirements for the Program.

Each academic year is divided into two Semesters: June to October & November to April

Working Hours

Government Aided Programs - Shift I : 08.00 a.m. to 01.20 p.m.

Self Financed Programs - Shift II : 12.30 p.m. to 05.30 p.m.

Each session begins with worship in the College Chapel at 07.45 a.m. for Shift I & 12.15 p.m.
for Shift II.

WCC NCC has Army, Navy & Air Wings. Students
I, II, III enrolled in NCC should continue in II & III year to obtain
B & C Certificates issued by the Ministry of Defense, I year - 60 2

 Physical Fitness is compulsory for all wings
 Navy wing – knowledge in basic swimming is III year - 75 1
necessary.

II Extension Activities :
Students can choose any one of the Service Oriented

CLUBS : Students are encouraged to explore and develop their talents and
interests through participation in various Clubs – Music, Dance, Quiz,
Debate and Dramatics which provide opportunities for cultural and

COLLEGE CHOIR : The College Choir is trained by a professional conductor. The
choristers perform within the College and outside on several
significant occasions.

The Masters Degree is a FOUR SEMESTER Program. Students must earn a minimum of 91
credits to acquire a Degree. The Program includes Core, Skill-based & Elective courses.

FACILITIES ON CAMPUS

CHAPEL
The Chapel situated at the geographic center of the College, is a quiet and beautiful place of
worship. Morning Devotion for Shift I and Afternoon Devotion for Shift II is conducted on all
working days before the commencement of classes. Christian students are expected to
participate.

LIBRARY
The Information Resource Centre of the college is housed in a spacious building which
provides a congenial atmosphere for quiet reading. The large number of books, journals and
magazines available here provide sufficient reading material on all subjects. The fully
automated Library services and the online public access catalogue provide quick access to
the information. Photocopying and Internet Facilities are provided for students at a nominal
fee. Students have access to e-journals and e-books through EBSCOHOST, Questia, and NLIST
even from remote locations. The research carrels in the reference section provide research
ambience in the Library. The Digital Library provides access to the Institutional Repository
of the College.

HOSTELS
The College has six Resident Halls with limited accommodation. The ambience and the
facilities provide students with ample opportunities to excel in academics and extra-
curricular activities. The hostel fosters community-living, enabling residents to experience
varied cultures and ethnic traditions.

STUDENT COUNSELLING CENTRE: VIKAAS


Vikaas is a project of the Department of Psychology where Counselling related to personal
and scholastic issues is offered. Group Counselling Programs on Personality Development
and Psychological Assessments are carried out for students of the College.

The Career Guidance Cell offers its services to students of the College throughout the year.

The Student Senate elected by the student community helps organize various College
activities with guidance from the Principal & faculty and ensures active participation of

DRESS REGULATIONS

Students are expected to dress modestly in salwar suits / trousers & shirts avoiding short,
sleeveless, flimsy or tight clothes. Strict disciplinary action will be taken if dress code is
violated.

MOBILE PHONES

Mobile phones should NOT be used on campus. Violation will incur suspension from
classes.

Withdrawal: Students who intend to discontinue from the College should submit a
requisition letter from their parents to the Principal. Transfer Certificate will be issued only
after all dues are settled. Original Transfer Certificate submitted at the time of admission
will not be returned once college commences.

AMERICAN TRANSFER PROGRAM (ATP)

Women’s Christian College and Concordia College, New York, USA will jointly recruit 10 -15
students for the academic year 2017 for ATP. Students who are interested should fulfill
admission criteria of WCC to enroll for one of the following programs: English, Psychology,
Commerce, Economics, Management Studies and Visual Communication. Students selected
for ATP will study at WCC for the first two years and then transfer to Concordia College, New
York to complete their American UG Degree.

BENEFITS OF ATP

 Four semesters at WCC and Three semesters at Concordia to complete Bachelor’s

Women’s Christian College has an Articulation Agreement with Middlesex University,


London, U.K. Middlesex is a 130 year old world-class British University with 40,000
students at campuses in London, Dubai, Malta and Mauritius. Middlesex University Business
School has been rated as a "centre of excellence" by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and
Development (CIPD), the first university in the UK to offer courses accredited by the
Chartered Institute of Marketing.

 BTP 2+1 (2 years of study at WCC and 1 year at Middlesex)

Students pursuing the Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) and Bachelor of Business


Administration at WCC, Chennai, are eligible to transfer to Middlesex University,
London, after successfully completing two years of study. Those who complete their
Year 3 at Middlesex University, London, will be awarded a BA (Hons) International
Business Administration or BA (Hons) International Business and Trade.

 BTP 1+2 (1 year of study at WCC and 2 years at Middlesex)

Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication at WCC, Chennai,


are eligible to transfer to Middlesex University, London, after successfully completing
