Entrepreneurship

Unfortunately, young people today have little or no knowledge about

entrepreneurship. It seems like getting a decent job instead of creating one became
more important, or perhaps an easier path. There is a common fallacy of
understanding what entrepreneurship is and who an entrepreneur is. I chose this topic
because of my aspirations to become one and clarifying my colleagues common
misconceptions about entrepreneurship.

Starting from the word itself, entrepreneurship has French origins. It derives from
the French word “entreprende”, which means to undertake, initiate or to make.
Basically, what makes entrepreneurship are exactly these three words. By definition,
entrepreneurship is a “process” in which an individual or a group of individuals use
organized efforts to pursue opportunities. To be honest, defining the real-life
entrepreneurship would be almost impossible because it includes a variety of every
possible thing an entrepreneur should be (which is almost infinite). In my opinion,
entrepreneurs are modern superheroes. They do research on problems and they
provide us with solutions, transforming the entire world. The main expertise of every
entrepreneur is initiating social change, creating something out of nothing and starting
from themselves-a quality which we all should possess. An achieved entrepreneur that
I had a pleasure to meet in person told me that the reason why he created a small web
platform that led to him starting his own business is impatience. He couldn’t wait for
someone else to make a solution to the problem he knew a lot of people including
himself had. He knew the only way he could persevere in making his vision into a
reality was for him to be eager for his own product-the solution to a problem he had!
Aside for him, many other entrepreneurs share the same motivation, they just want to
make their and our lives easier plus earn some money. This is where ordinary people
differ from modern superheroes, superheroes get stuff done.

Apart from impatience, there are many other reasons why people turn to
entrepreneurship. People always strive towards self-employment for the sake of
freedom that comes along. Nevertheless, the not so hidden motive behind this strive is

money. With entrepreneurship, that is quite common. Of course, it takes a tremendous
amount of effort and time, which still doesn’t guarantee it will pay off. Moreover,
positive sides of this type of lifestyle also include doing something you enjoy, having
job security, making your own schedule and creating a legacy. While all of these
sound alluring, there is a reason only a few people actually manage to do so. Many
say that if you want to become an entrepreneur, you have to be born an entrepreneur,
and that there are just some qualities that you have to possess. This still doesn’t
guarantee you success. The numbers in most common charts state that talent occupies
about 2% and hard work occupies 98%. Even in the most economically developed
countries like China, there is only 3% of accomplished entrepreneurs.

People tend to mix up entrepreneurs with businessmen. As strange as it sounds,

they are actually not the same. Basically, if a business owner has a good idea, an
entrepreneur will have more of them. If a business owner thinks ahead, he thinks
ahead a week, while an entrepreneur thinks ahead six months. Business owner will
start a business over an existing idea, an entrepreneur will do something never seen
before-something brand new. To sum it up, entrepreneurs are risk lovers and that’s
why they rarely succeed. They are people driven by passion rather than only profit
and that is what makes them so special and unique.

If you are familiar with names Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos,
Mark Zuckerberg and many others, you can imagine what can one good idea do. All
of them are reason to believe that it really doesn’t matter who you are, where are you
from and where are you going-as long as you chase your goals. In conclusion, we
should feel very blessed to be existing in the same time as these people, who taught us
that it isn’t important to dig for gold, it’s important to know how to sell shovels.
