Lesson Idea Name: THE WATER CYCLE

Content Area: Science
Grade Level(s): 4th Grade

Content Standard Addressed:

S4E3. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to demonstrate the water cycle.

1. Develop models to illustrate multiple pathways water may take during the water cycle
(evaporation, condensation, and precipitation).
(Clarification statement: Students should understand that the water cycle does not follow a
single pathway.)

Technology Standard Addressed:

3-Knowledge Constructor

Selected Technology Tool: Bubbl.us

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Video on BrainPop will have subtitles available and multiple languages as well. For my ELL students who need
it in other languages, they will be able to watch video in own language. Bubbl.us is an easy tool and. Students
should be able to easily pick up on what goes on in the website to create their own bubble map. If not,
teacher will be there for scaffolding. Students will then be able to post on Seesaw app to show their parents
what they made and we can put on teacher blog for others to see! Teacher will also be able to share “the
best” with other teachers to show their students.

Lesson idea implementation:

Have students watch the brainpop jr video on The Water Cycle. Have students write notes down on the video
in their notebook’s. Point out key words in the video and write these on the white board. Introduce students
to Popplet with a practice one about the teacher. Show them how it works, and then give them directions on
what they will be asked to do. Students will be asked to create their own bubble map about the water cycle,
pointing out the key stages the water cycle goes through. Have them write what goes on in each stage and a

fun site about each stage at the end of each bubble. Have students share with teacher through email when
completed. Teacher will then put on SeeSaw family sharing app for all parents to see their students work

Reflective Practice:
I feel as if this lesson is a great and easy and interactive one. This is better for visual learners as well. This is
better for students who struggle reading straight from Book. And, it’s better than a paper and pencil method
of learning. Students will be able to print out as well and be able to use for end of unit quiz.
To further this lesson, I could have students use Popplet. This website is a better one than bubbl because you
can add pictures and videos onto each bubble. And I could also have students create a movie about the water
cycle outside of school and have them record and observe different stages of the water cycle that they would
see outside of school in their community.
