ABSTARCT
The objective of this research are (1) to know the level of students’
vocabulary mastery after being taught using word wall, (2) to find out the use of
word wall in English teaching learning is effective or not in improving student’s
vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade students of SMK Bina Karya 2 Karanganyar
in the academic year of 2014/2015
.
The population of this research is the tenth grade students of SMK BINA
KARYA 2 Karanganyar and the research took 68 students as the sample. As the
control class, the researcher used class tenth grade TKR 1 that consists of 34
students and as the experiment class the researcher used class tenth grade TKR 3
that consists of 34 students. The independent variable is the use of word wall to
improve vocabulary in the material invitation, and the dependent variable is the
students’ vocabulary mastery result manifested in the test score. In getting the
data, the researcher analyzed the data by using descriptive statistic analysis (mean,
modus, median, Standard deviation, and highest, lowest and sum score) and
inferential analysis (normality test, test homogeneity and t – test as test of
hypothesis).
After analyzing the data, the researcher concluded that teaching by using
word wall is effective to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. As the fact the
result of t – value is 8.604. Based on the 0.05 significant levels, the significance
(2- tailed) was 0.000. The result of computation showed that significant level is
higher than significance (2-tailed) that is 0.05 > 0.000. Thus, Ha (Hypothesis
Alternative) is accepted and using word wall is effective to improve the students’
vocabulary mastery.
