HOW TO CRACK JEE MAIN?

INTRODUCTION TO JEE MAIN

JEE Main is the biggest engineering entrance test wherein over 12 lakh candidates
take the test every year. JEE Main is the entrance test for admission to B.Tech
and B.E. programmes across National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian
Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and Centrally Funded Technical
Institutes (CFTIs). The entrance test is conducted in English, Hindi and Gujarati
languages across the country and abroad. JEE Main Paper I is for admission to
B.Tech programmes, while JEE Main Paper II is held for B.Arch. Admissions.
Apart from admissions to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, JEE Main is also the first stage
entrance test for JEE Advanced, which is the gateway for admission into Indian
Institutes of Technology (IITs). Top 2,24,000 candidates from JEE Main are
filtered for appearing in JEE Advanced. All NITs, IIITs and CFTIs collectively

HOW TO CRACK JEE MAIN?

How to JEE Main is a complex yet simple question which has captured the minds
of many aspiring candidates over the years, however, one who plans the preparation
part strategically, carries higher possibility of cracking the entrance test. There are
other elements also which contribute to the success of candidates in JEE Main like
not studying everything, prepare for the exam as per the syllabus, focus more on
important topics, use good books for preparation, make a time table and break into
the time you have in hand, make short notes, keep time for revision, etc. Incorporate
these points in your JEE Main preparation and ensure a higher rate of success in the
entrance test. Read the tips and tricks further to crack JEE Main.

Important Question - Coaching or No Coaching?

This is something candidates must decide for themselves – shall they go for coach-
ing or opt for self-study? If your basic about the concepts of Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics are clear and if you have the confidence that you will be able to clear
the test with self-study, you must do it yourself. Nothing to worry about. The official
reports reflect that more candidates with self-study crack the entrance test than the
students who have taken coaching. However, if you think that you need constant
guidance and clarity over the topics/concepts, you may go for coaching.

What will matter the most in JEE Main preparation?

Besides other important strategies, aspiring candidates must keep in mind that
theoretical preparation will not come to their rescue. Only if your fundamentals are
clear about the topics and concepts, then you will score good in JEE Main. If your
basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are fundamentally clear,
which can be put to use to solve a daily life problem, then you are on the right track.
Thus, candidates aspiring to take JEE Main must be seriously considerate about this
factors and should not take it for granted.

TIME TABLE
Ideally, candidates must begin their preparation for JEE Main from class XI
onwards and apart from mastering all the basic concepts, it is equally important
to increase your accuracy and gain speed in order to make the cut in the top list.
One who starts the preparation from class XI has a greater possibility of cracking
the entrance test. However that need not be a deterrent. An important aspect for
“how to crack JEE Main” is time management. So plan and execute it to the tee.

With every passing month and week, candidates must keep a track of their prepa-
ration as per the time table and deadlines they have set for themselves. You must
keep a pace wherein you can finish all your weekly and monthly targets in terms
of completing the syllabus. Don’t just lax thinking you have time to do it later. This
approach will be harmful. Complete the syllabus in a way that you are left with
good time for revision. Also, the books from where you decide to study will matter
to a great extent. Thus, some of the important books have been listed on the next
page for you.

Aspects you must polish during Preparation

It’s should not be simply a preparing for the national level engineering entrance
test, but a thorough preparation wherein you develop various traits like speed,
accuracy and time management. With every preparation, candidates must identify
if they are developing the speed in terms of solving a question or whether you are
developing the accuracy in solving a question. These are the qualities candidates
must constantly work on in their preparation. When candidates are consciously
working on these factors, they will be able to manage their time well on the day of
the exam, which is a very critical aspect of ensuring how much you will be able to
score in the test.

SAMPLE PAPERS & MOCK TEST

Solving sample papers and taking a number of mock tests must be an integral part
of JEE Main aspirants. As per the toppers from previous years, this strategy has
worked wonders in their performance in JEE Main. This part of the preparation
must not be ignored at any cost. At least practising JEE Main question papers of
last 10 years should be the benchmark. Sample papers and mock tests carry several
benefits to the aspirants. By solving the previous years question papers and sample
papers, candidates get to know the kind of questions that come in the exam, the
marking scheme, sectional weightage, etc. Mock tests does the same by giving the
complete hang of the paper to the candidates. The more one solves the sample
papers, the lesser is the possibility of failing in JEE Main. With increasing practise
of sample papers of JEE Main, candidates learn different ways to solve a problem
or question. They also get to solve a huge question bank. This raises the probability
that candidates may encounter questions similar to what they have solved or from
the same vast question bank.

MAKE SHORT NOTES AND HAVE TIME

FOR REVISION
Once you start preparation for JEE Main based on the syllabus and important
topics, you must also start making short notes to remember the formulae and
concepts concisely. Short notes help you at the time of revision when you are
pressed with time but you want to revise all that you have studied so far. If you do
not, your preparation will be at loss, as revision is a very important element of the
JEE Main preparation.

ADVISORY
It’s very natural that candidates feel burdened with the preparation and studies,
however, Careers360 would like to mention some of the areas which you should
not shun away from and can continue with even during the preparation period.
These activities are good for your mind and health and boost up your spirit to fur-
ther do your best while resuming the studies. As the saying goes, “All work and no
play”, you must put your mind at ease intermittently and must make all efforts to
freshen it up. However, it should not be for long hours though. But definitely these
activities help you increase your productivity. Read through the points below.
●● Do not shun away from pursuing your hobbies. But do not just completely be into
them. Strike out a balance as to when to take a break and when to study.
●● To lighten up your spirit/mind, listen to some good music or watch a movie and
the again resume your studies.
●● Do not eat unhealthy and maintain a healthy diet throughout as you need to stay
in good health for preparation.
●● We would not advise that you go for 8-10 hours of sleep during your preparation,
however, the basic 5-6 hours which are required for your body to stay fit/healthy must
be given. Do not compromise on the basic sleeping hours.
●● As a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, candidates must take some light
exercises, Yoga, meditation or play some sports in small intervals during your studies.
These activities will help you throughout the preparation period.
