NON-MENDELIAN INHERITANCE

Is a general term that refers to

any pattern of inheritance in
which traits DO NOT segregate in
accordance with Mendel’s Law.
INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE
Is a form of intermediate
inheritance in which one allele
for a specific trait is not
dominant over the other allele.
CODOMINANCE
Both alleles contribute to the
phenotype of the organism by
showing up simultaneously (at
the same time) in heterozygous
individuals.
SEX CHROMOSOMES
MALES:
-have non-identical sex
chromosomes (XY).
FEMALES:
-have identical sex
chromosomes.
SEX-LINKED TRAITS
This is also referred to as x-
linked traits.
These are determined by genes
that are determined on the X
chromosomes.
This is determined also in the sex
chromosomes of individual.
SEX-LINKED TRAITS
SEX-INFLUENCED TRAITS
The traits produced here is not
sex-linked but is carried by the
body chromosomes or
AUTOSOMES.

Example of this is Baldness

Multiple Alleles
Another blood group system in humans,
the ABO system, is an example of a
character governed by multiple alleles.
Three alleles are responsible for this blood
system: IA ,IB, and i.
The ABO blood type is determined by the
presence or absence of two antigens, A and
B. Allele i does not code for an antigen.
There are four possible blood types.
BLOOD TYPES
PHENOTYPE GENOTYPE
A IAIA , IAi
B IBIB , IBi
AB IAIB
O ii
REMEMBER:
The IA and IB alleles are
dominant over the i allele, which
is always recessive. However,
when the IA and IB alleles are
inherited together, both alleles
are expressed equally. This also
makes IA and IB codominants of
each other.
 In humans, there are four blood
types (phenotypes): A, B, AB, O.
 Blood type is controlled by three
alleles: A, B, O.
 O is recessive, two O alleles
must be present for a person to
have type O blood.
 A and B are codominant. If a
person receives an A allele and a
B allele, their blood type is type
AB.
