I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
a. identify the planets of the solar system;
b. arrange the planets orderly; and
c. demonstrate proper attitude when working with group.
- How long does it take to complete one rotation? - It takes 24 hours ma’am to complete
- That’s right! one rotation.
- How about the earth’s revolution? How long - It takes 365 days or 1 year to
will it take to complete one revolution? complete the earth’s revolution around
- That’s correct! It seems that you have fully the sun ma’am.
understood the Earth’s motion.
B. Engagement
- Now, I need 9 pupils to come here in front and
arranged these jumbled words.

- Place it on the space provided in the board. - (Pupils will perform the activity)
- The words are Sun, Mercury, Venus,
Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus,
and Neptune
- Well done, class. What have you observed with - They are names of the planets in our
the words you had formed? solar system ma’am.
- That’s right!
- I have here a short video presentation and I want - Yes, ma’am!
you to take some notes and observe it carefully. (The
teacher will play the video)
- Before we go further into our discussion, let us
read first our objectives.
- Okay class, repeat after me. - Pupils will read the objectives after
the teacher
- In order for us to know what our topic is for
today, I have here a picture of our Solar System.
- On the video and picture that I’ve shown, does - Yes, ma’am!
anyone of you can now tell what would be our topic or - Our topic for today is all about the
lesson for today? Sun and the Different Planets in the
Solar System.
- Very good! Today, we will be discussing about
the Sun and the Different Planets in the Solar System.
- Are you ready to learn? - Yes, ma’am!
C. Exploration
- This time we will have a group activity. Let
them choose a leader, secretary and reporter.
- Each group will have a different task (Draw
Lots). But before I give the instructions for your
activities, let us first read and understand the rubrics.
Rubrics:
Promptness – 5 pts
Behavior – 5 pts
Cooperation – 10 pts
Creativity – 10 pts
Correctness – 20 pts
TOTAL – 50 PTS
- Now that we already know the rubrics, let’s
proceed to the activity:
- Is there any clarifications? If none, you may - The pupils will perform their
begin. You have 10 minutes to prepare. Timer starts different tasks
now!
- Did you enjoy the activity class? - Yes ma’am. We’ve enjoyed the
activity!
- Could the activity be done by only one person? No, ma’am.
- Now in the activity that we have finished. What - Ma’am the values that we’ve shown
do you think are the values that you’ve shown while while doing our activity are
doing the activity? cooperation and determination.
- Yes that’s right! You’ve shown cooperation and - We can apply cooperation and
determination. Then how do you apply cooperation and determination in doing our work to
determination as a student? finish it with a better outcome. And
we develop our cooperation with one
another while we’re determined to
finish our work on the time provided.
- Well done everyone. Please go back to your seats. - Yes ma’am.
D. Explanation
- So class, what is a Solar System? - The Solar System is made up of all
- That’s correct! Thank you ___. the planets that orbit our Sun ma’am.
- In addition to planets, the Solar System also
consists of moons, comets, asteroids, minor planets,
and dust and gas.
- What are the planets in our Solar System? - Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars,
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
- Very good! All of your answers are correct.
- Let’s talk about the sun, is the sun a star? - Yes ma’am!
- Now, based on the short video presentation that - Mercury, the closest planet to the
you’ve watched compare the eight planets of our solar sun, Mercury is only a bit larger than
system. Earth's moon.
- The teacher will further discuss after the pupils’ - Venus, the second planet from the
answers. sun, Venus is terribly hot, even hotter
than Mercury. The atmosphere is
toxic. The pressure at the surface
would crush and kill you.
- Earth, the third planet from the sun,
Earth is a waterworld, with two-thirds
of the planet covered by ocean. It’s the
only world known to harbor life.
Earth’s atmosphere is rich in life-
sustaining nitrogen and oxygen.
- Mars, the fourth planet from the sun,
is a cold, dusty place. The dust, an
iron oxide, gives the planet its reddish
cast. Mars shares similarities with
Earth: It is rocky, has mountains and
valleys, and storm systems ranging
from localized tornado-like dust devils
to planet-engulfing dust storms.
- Jupiter, the fifth planet from the
sun, Jupiter is huge and is the most
massive planet in our solar system. It’s
a mostly gaseous world, mostly
hydrogen and helium. Its swirling
clouds are colorful due to different
types of trace gases.
- Saturn, the sixth planet from the sun
is known most for its rings.
- Uranus, the seventh planet from the
sun, Uranus is an oddball. Uranus is
about the same size as Neptune.
- Neptune, the eighth planet from the
sun, Neptune is known for strong
winds — sometimes faster than the
speed of sound. Neptune is far out and
cold. Neptune is about 17 times as
massive as Earth.
E. Elaboration
- Again class, what is a Solar System? - The Solar System is made up of all
the planets that orbit our Sun. In
addition to planets, the Solar System
also consists of moons, comets,
asteroids, minor planets, and dust and
gas.
- Very good! Can you now give the planets of our - Yes ma’am! The planets of our Solar
solar system? system are Mercury, Venus, Earth,
Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and
Neptune.
- What is the center of our solar system? - The SUN is the center of our Solar
System ma’am.
- Are there any questions regarding our lesson? - None, ma’am.
- Since there are no more questions, let’s now have
a short quiz.
F. Evaluation
- The teacher will distribute the test questionnaires - The pupils will now begin answering
to the pupils.
- You have only 10 minutes to answer.
- All right, let’s check your work. And to measure - Yes ma’am.
your honesty, you have to check your own paper, okay
class?
- The teacher will select pupils to answer items 1- - Selected pupils will read and answer
10. items 1-5
- Are you done checking your papers? -Yes ma’am.
- Pass all the papers.
G. Extend
- For your assignment:
Draw the solar system and the different planets.
- Good bye, class! - Good bye and thank you, Ma’am Jay
Ann!
