Recommended Prerequisite Courses


Desirable candidates are academically ready to succeed in the program. The following courses are
strongly recommended to have been completed prior to application to the program, within the last
ten years. They can have been completed at an undergraduate or post‐baccalaureate level, or
through graduate work.

 -Anatomy (4 semester credits or 5 quarter units)*


 -Physiology (4 semester credits or 5 quarter units; animal, human, or exercise physiology
acceptable)
 Combined Anatomy and Physiology Course for two semesters is also acceptable
 -Chemistry (4 semester credits or 5 quarter units; Organic Chemistry is acceptable)
 - General Statistics or Biostatistics
 - Psychology
 In addition to the courses above, we recommend 3 additional upper-division-level science
courses. Ideally these courses should have been completed at an undergraduate or post‐
baccalaureate level, or through graduate work, and within the last ten years and completed
by the time of matriculation. Some examples of acceptable courses are listed below.

We also suggest that applicants (especially those without strong prior healthcare experience)
consider taking a course in Medical Terminology prior to matriculation (no specific course type or
units/credits recommended).

Entrance Requirements
Applicants must have received an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited US
college or university by July 15th of the year of matriculation; no specific discipline or major is
prescribed. Prior healthcare experience (>500 hours) through either prior employment or volunteer
work is strongly recommended. In addition, prior leadership or service work in a medically
underserved area is desirable.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required. Please note that GRE scores are only valid for
five years.
Candidates will be required via CASPA to submit a personal statement (limited to 5,000
characters) and three letters of reference. These references should reflect the applicant's ability
to perform graduate‐level work and address the individual's professionalism, integrity, and
motivation. Prior employers, professional colleagues, and academic advisors are acceptable
references.
Candidates via CASPA will also be requested to answer four questions specifically designed for
the Stanford School of Medicine MS in PA Studies program. The questions relate to future PA
practice, leadership potential, most likely area of scholarly concentration and contributions to
diversity.

A. A successful DGSOM at UCLA applicant will have demonstrated attainment of knowledge
in the following topics:

 Biological Sciences and Physiology: Cellular and Molecular Biology and Genetics
 Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physical Sciences: Inorganic and Organic chemistry,
Biochemistry of intermediary metabolism, and associated laboratory activities.
 Humanities: This might include literature and/or art, history, philosophy, religion, ethics,
economics, social behavior, psychology
 Mathematics and Statistics: This might include biomathematics, computer science, matrix
algebra

B. A successful DGSOM at UCLA applicant will have demonstrated attainment of skills in the
following areas:

 Writing and communication skills

2) Keck School of Medicine of the University of


Southern California
Prerequisites of the Keck School of Medicine
Applicants must have completed a baccalaureate degree, or its equivalent, from an
accredited college or university prior to matriculation. The school has no specific
course requirements. Strong applicants will have distinguished themselves in their
chosen field of study and have demonstrated competency in the sciences at the time
of their application. Please see the MSAR for recommended coursework. Please
discuss any coursework preparation with your pre-health advisor. If you do not have a
pre-health advisor, the National Association of Advisors for the Health
Professions provides advising free of charge. Due to the large number of applications
that we receive, we are not able to provide individualized admissions counseling.

To be considered for admission, applicants to the 2018 entering medical school class must have taken
the MCAT no earlier than January 1, 2015, and no later than September 30, 2017.
All MCAT scores that meet the above criteria are visible to the Admissions Committee and taken into
consideration.

Letters of Recommendation (LORs)

The Keck School of Medicine of USC participates in the AMCAS Letter of Recommendation Service. A
committee letter is sufficient. Alternatively, 2 or 3 letters from professors, PI’s or work experience are
acceptable. Do not send more than 3 letters! Applicants are required to send their letters through
AMCAS. DO NOT send any letters of recommendation to the Office of Admissions, as they will not be
accepted.

University of Massachusetts MD
Academic Requirements
Academic requirements for applying to the University of Massachusetts Medical School - School
of Medicine are outlined below. A bachelor's degree is required and all applicants must have
obtained their degree prior to matriculation.

Prerequisite coursework should be completed within the last six years and CLEP credit may
not be used to satisfy these requirements. All prerequisite coursework must be taken at an
accredited college or university in the United States or Canada and must be evaluated by
traditional grading and not by a pass/fail system.

Advanced placement credit in prerequisite coursework is accepted, however, the credit


awarded must be stated on your transcript and AMCAS application. Upper level undergraduate
science coursework is encouraged, especially for applicants who received AP credit for any
prerequisite courses.
Applicants who have graduated from a foreign college or university must have completed a
minimum of one full year of study at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university prior
to submitting their application.
