DAILY LESSON LOG (DLL) in Science

Grade Level/ Section: Grade 9 /_______________

Learning Area: Chemistry (Mole) Quarter: 3rd
Date: _________________ Day:___________

I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARD:
The learners demonstrate an understanding on the unit , mole that quantitatively measures the number
of very small particles of matter.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learners should be able to relate the mass of the object to the number of particles.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES
The Learners should be able to:
Use the mole concept to express the number of particles and mass of substances (S9MT-III-19)

Specific Objectives:
Given the necessary materials, 80% of the students should be able to:
1. Measure the mass of an object;
2. Record the mass with the correct number of significant figures;
3. Relate the mass of the object to the number of pieces per item.

II.CONTENT (SUBJECT MATTER): Mass of Substances

III. LEARNING RESOURCES:

A. References
1. Teacher’s guide pages: pp. 116-117
2. Learner’s Materials pages: pp. 145-146
3. Textbook pages:
Conceptual and Functional Chemistry by Padolina et.al, pp. 147-152
Teaching Resource Package pp. 70-73
4. Additional Materials from Learning Resource (LR) Portal
EASEChemistry Module 16 Stoichiometry
5. Other Learning Resources/Internet Website – https://d3jc3ahdjad7x7.cloud.net

IV.PROCEDURES
A. Review of the past lesson or presenting the new lesson
Activity/Game: Match A and B: (collective nouns relating the concept of mole)
Colony Ants Flock Birds
Team Players Rank sailors/armies
Galaxy Stars Bed flowers
School Fish mole substances

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

Ask: How is mole used to express the amount of a substance?
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson
C:\Users\madonna\Desktop\The Mole 1.ppt
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skill #1
Perform Activity # 1 Counting by getting the mass of an Object LM pp. 147-148
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skill #2
Let the students answer these questions:
 Is the number of paper clips in step 2 the same as the number of paper clips in step 3?
 Why do/don’t you think so?
F. Developing Mastery
Ask: Analyze the given information and answer the problems below:

6.02 x 1023 water molecules 6.02 x 1023 gold atoms Gold Bar
1 mole of water = 18 g 1 mole of gold = 197 g

6.02 x 1023 sugar molecules 6.02 x 1023 ion pairs of NaCl 6.02 x 1023 sulfur atoms
1 mole of sugar (C12H22O11)=342 g1 mole of table salt (NaCl) =58 g 1 mole of sulfur = 32 g

1. How many grams are there in 1.5 moles of gold?

2. How many molecules are present in 18 g of water?
3. How many atoms are there in 64 g of sulfur?
4. In 1.204 x 1024 molecules of sugar, how many moles are there?
5. How many moles of NaCl has a mass of 116 g?

G. Finding practical applications of concepts & skills in daily living

Having an experience in counting by getting the mass, give some ways in which you can apply this
procedure in daily life situations.

H. Making generalizations & abstractions about the lesson

Ask: Which of the following statements is/are correct?

B. One mole of any A. Different substances which

substance contains contain 6.02 x 1023 particles
6.02 x 1023 particles. have different masses.

C. One mole each of different

D. Different substances having
substances having different
the same number of particles
masses contains different
have the same mass.
number of particles.

I. Evaluating Learning.
True or False.
1. A mole signifies a collection of large fixed number of particles (ions, atoms or molecules)
2. Mole can be represented by n and its unit is also mole or mol
3. The method of determining the number of moles was developed by John Dalton.
4. Avogadro’s number is constant. Its value is 6.02 x 1023particles/mol.
5. Atoms, molecules, and ions are very small. It is quite impossible to calculate their numbers.

J. Additional activities for application or remediation:

Solve the following problems:
1. Calculate the number of moles contained in the following;
a. 20 g CO2 b. 100 g CaCO3 c. 5 g He
2. How many particles are in the following?
a. 10 moles carbon b. 5 g silicon c. 6 moles CCl4

V. REMARKS____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
