LEARNING PLAN

GRADE: Grade 8
UNIT TOPIC: Laws of motion
UNIT STANDARDS:

The learners demonstrate an understanding of: Newton’s three laws of motion and uniform
circular motion

LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
1. investigate the relationship between the amount of force applied and the mass of the object to
the amount of change in the object’s motion
S8FE-Ia-15
2. infer that when a body exerts a force on another, an equal amount of force is exerted back on it
S8FE-Ia-16
3. Demonstrate how a body responds to changes in motion
S8FE-Ib-17
4. relate the laws of motion to bodies in uniform circular motion
S8FE-Ib-18
5. infer that circular motion requires the application of constant force directed toward the center of
the circle
S8FE-Ib-19
LEARNING TARGETS:
 Identify the forces acting on objects at rest
 Understand and explain how the forces acting on the objects in Activity 1 help in keeping
them at rest.
 Demonstrate how the inertia of an object affects its motion.
 Analyze and describe the relationship between the unbalanced external force acting on an
object and its acceleration
 Describe the relationship between the forces that two bodies exert on each other by
realizing these forces are equal in magnitude but opposite in direction.

EXPLORE
ACTIVITY 1: HOOK ACTIVITY (Picture analyzation)
Instruction: The teacher will flash different pictures that pertains to the idea of motion. The
students will analyze how do the pictures differ from each other
ACTIVITY 2: WHAT ARE YOUR IDEAS?
Instruction: The student will write their initial knowledge using IRF model.
EQ:
Do forces always result in motion?
What are the conditions for an object to stay at rest, to keep moving at constant velocity, or to
move with increasing velocity?
How is force related to acceleration?
INITIAL REVISE FINAL

ACTIVITY 3: PRE-ACTIVITY
After giving preliminary information on the students, the Teacher will instruct first the
precautionary measures inside the laboratory.
ACTIVITY 4: STATION TEACHING
The teacher will assign different tasks on different groups. The first group will conduct a
laboratory exercise about forces on object at rest.
The second group will be about Balance of Forces
The third group will be about Investigation of Inertia
The fourth group will be about force and acceleration
The Fifth group will be about Action and Reaction
The teacher will roam on every group to facilitate the exercise
ACTIVITY 4: INITIAL CHECKING

After finishing the exercise, the Teacher will check the Students’ initial knowledge about the topic
before proceeding on the discussion.

ACTIVITY 5: WHAT ARE YOUR IDEAS? (EQ)

Instruction: The student will write their revised knowledge using IRF model.

EQ:
Do forces always result in motion?
What are the conditions for an object to stay at rest, to keep moving at constant velocity, or to
move with increasing velocity?
How is force related to acceleration?
Initial Revised Final

DEEPEN
ACTIVITY 6: GROUP REPORTING
Every group will report their findings in the class.
ACTIVITY 7: DISCUSSION
After all the group present their answers, the Teacher will continue further add information about
the topics and clarify some of ideas.

ACTIVITY 9: SEATWORKS
The teacher will give problem-solving worksheets among the students that covers all of the topics
discussed.
ACTIVITY 10: WHAT HAVE YOU UNDERSTAND? (EQ)
Instruction: The student will write their final knowledge using IRF model
EQ:
Do forces always result in motion?
What are the conditions for an object to stay at rest, to keep moving at constant velocity, or to
move with increasing velocity?
How is force related to acceleration?

TRANSFER
ACTIVITY 11: WRITTEN PLAN
The students will organize a ‘Newtons Olympics” by developing a written plan on the mechanics
and activities which includes the applications of Newton’s Law of Motion

ACTIVITY 12: GADGET MAKING

Every group will design a recycled product that can be used on our everyday life applying
Newton’s Law of Motions.
There would be written and oral presentation of the project
.
ACTIVITY 15: GRAPHIC ORGANIZING
The students will make a graphic organizer that simplifies the ideas of the topics about Laws of
motion
