fever, headache, and body aches, CNS disturbances such as paresthesia of
extremities, and glucose disturbances in patients who have diabetes mellitus.

2. Complete the following questions and review the suggested learning activities. Send me
your answers here.

knows acetaminophen should not exceed _4___ grams per day. The nurse will monitor for early
signs of toxicity. Name three (3) manifestations of toxicity.
Suggested Pharmacology Learning Activity: Pain Medications
-early signs of toxicity is nausea, vomiting, sweating

What parameter of the cardiovascular system should the nurse monitor when a client is
receiving Albuterol?
Suggested Pharmacology Learning Activity: Anti-Inflammatory Medications- Bronchodilators
-The heartrate should be monitored because tachycardia is caused by albuterol use,
check pulse and report to doctor if its increased 20-30 bpm. Clients should also be
advised to observe for chest, jaw or arm pain, or palpations and notify the provider if they

and suck on sugar free candy to help alleviate dry mouth. Teach the patient to rinse
mouth after use to remove the unpleasant taste from the med
A client is prescribed rosuvastatin (Crestor). Identify three (3) adverse effects and lab values the
nurse should monitor.
Suggested Pharmacology Learning Activity: Antilipemic Agents
-hepatotoxicity, myopathy, and rhabdomyolsis. Monitor liver function (AST) and creatine
kinase levels

A client is prescribed digoxin (Lanoxin). What are contraindications/precautions for the use of
digoxin (Lanoxin)?
Suggested Pharmacology Learning Activity: Heart Failure
-pregnancy category C, disturbance in ventricular rhythm, V-fib, V-tach, 2nd and 3rd degree
block. Use cautiously with clients who have partial AV block, hypo K+, advanced HF, and
impaired kidney functions.

A client is receiving IV paclitaxel for treatment of ovarian cancer. Which of the following
assessment data is a priority concern? Bleeding gums, unexplained bruising, Hair loss occurring
8 days after beginning treatment Increase in fatigue, Client complains of chest pain and
shortness of breath
Suggested Pharmacology Learning Activity: Chemotherapy Agents
-bleeding gums, unexplained bruising, hair loss occurring after 8 days of treatment,
increased fatigued, and client complaining of SOB

A nurse is caring for a client prescribed the chemotherapy agent topotecan (Hycamtin). What are
adverse effects of this medication and nursing interventions/client education for this medication?
Suggested Pharmacology Learning Activity: Chemotherapy Agents
-fever 100.4 or higher, SOB, bleeding that doesn’t stop after a few minutes, vomiting more
than 5x a day, black tarry stools, mouth sores.. Advise client to contact the doctor

A client is receiving metformin (Glucophage) for diabetes management. What are three (3)
potential adverse effects and associated nursing measures to address adverse effects of this
medication therapy
- Anorexia, nausea and diarrhea, effects usually subside with use. Monitor for
severity. Discontinue if necessary.
Vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency, provide supplements as needed.
Lactic Acidosis, withhold medications if symptoms occur and inform the provider
immediately. Severe lactic acidosis can be treated with hemodialysis.
A client has been prescribed diclofenac for osteoarthritis. What would the nurse teach this client
about this medication?

increase the risk of bleeding

When administering hydomorphone, what should the nurse monitor to prevent toxicity
associated with this medication?
Suggested Pharmacology Learning Activity: Pain Medications
-shallow breathing, slow heartbeat (less than 12 call doc), cold, clammy skin, confusion,
fainting/ light headed, assess for bladder distension
Keep naloxone near for the reversal of toxicity
