INTEGRITY: A WAY OF LIFE

Integrity is the being honest and showing a consistent and uncompromising adherence to
strong moral and ethical principles and values. The word “ Integrity” itself derived form
a Latin word “Integer” that means to feel whole I.e complete person. So it refers a sense
of completeness and togetherness one enjoys when they live their lives honestly and
morally. So a person that has integrity will act and behave as per set values and believes
they hold dear. Integrity is more than ethics at the individual level. It is all about the
character of the individual. It is those characteristics of an individual that are
consistently considerate, compassionate, transparent, honest, and ethical. However, the
most philosophically important sense of the term ‘integrity’ relates to general character.
There is a famous saying which perfectly describes integrity. “ Honesty is telling the
truth to other people, Integrity is telling the truth to myself.”

Integrity is a value, like persistence, courage and intelligence. It is a choice of values and
resolution to live by those values that form character personality. And it is integrity that
enhances all other values. The quality of person is determined by how well he or she live
up to the values that are most important. Integrity is the quality that locks values and
causes to live consistent. The mark of people who have high integrity is, they always do
the highest quality of work in everything they do. They are the people who are always
totally honest with themselves in everything they do, and strive to excellent work on
every occasion. People with high integrity realize that everything they do is a statement
about who they are as a person. Integrity involves being honest and doing the right thing
even if you get no recognition for doing so. It involves being honest and correct when no
one is watching.

“Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.”
―Oprah Winfrey

Integrity is attributed to various parts or aspects of a person’s life. There are those
attributes such as Academic, professional, intellectual and artistic integrity. Academic
integrity is important to lay down a good foundation for student, so he can follow the
same principles for the rest of his life. It is also a sign of good future leader. It is a good
habit to develop early in our life. Professional Integrity leads to trust-building among
colleagues and friends. It builds trust and people are drawn towards such honest and
dependable behavior. Integrity in a workplace also promotes a positive environment
which encourages higher productivity.

Integrity is a quality of spirit that lives in all of us. Professional integrity and ethical
behavior is crucial for personal credibility and professional success within the business
world. Each profession has a set of core values by which it identifies its very essence.
Professionals who have worked with personnel who lacked integrity talk about the
inability to count on individuals to do what they have said they would do, environments
where the focus has gone from customers to protecting oneself, and where leaders are
unwilling to live by the values that they publicly espouse. To act with professional
integrity, each member of the profession has the responsibility to have personal integrity,
and the best of us create environments that nourish the integrity of others . Ethical
Integrity is a favorably sensible method for doing what is right when it comes to people
dealing with people. In today’s society, ethical integrity has become a modern lifestyle.
When a person has a strong moral character, they are said to be a person of integrity and
to live a honest life is said to be the most important virtue a person can have.
Consistency is a concept of ethical integrity and people should act according to their
moral principles.

Integrity is what you do and how you conduct yourself when there is no one watching.
The prosperity is the state of having good fortune, wealth and success. It is essentially
related to peace, harmony and satisfaction. If you sow with integrity, you will definitely
reap in prosperity. Achieving prosperity without integrity is impossible. Only men of
high integrity have the strength, creativity, and will to work tirelessly. Without industry
and prolonged perseverance, prosperity remains only a mere dream. All the great
achievers in the history of mankind have been men and women of impeccable integrity.
Abraham Lincoln, Madam Curie, Louis Pasteur, Winston Churchill, Dr. Graham Bell,
Einstein, Addison, Mahatma Gandhi, etc, have been men and women of high integrity.
They achieved phenomenal success in their respective fields by applying the principle of
integrity. If any nation wants prosperity, it must have honest people.

Similarly, if a nation is to achieve invincible prosperity in the fields of health, finances,

science, technology, and innovation, the people of that nation must adopt the principle of
integrity. All the great nations which are considered to be prosperous at present are the
nations whose people are men and women of high integrity. Every day they work
tirelessly for the prosperity of their nations.

If our country is to prosper, we will have to apply integrity even in the minutest details.
We must persevere in all the fields with dedication and commitment, prosperity will
certainly follow. Integrity is a divine quality; it augments energy, enthusiasm, creativity,
fearlessness, purposefulness, and accomplishment. So develop in yourself integrity, with
all your heart, body, and mind and make it a way of your life. The following methods are
useful to live with great integrity.
1. Live with honest and keep our promises.
2. Show compassion and sympathy/empathy towards others,
3. Create a personal mission statement for our life.
4. Maintain a dedicationto our values.

“Maintain a commitment to honesty, fairness, and the highest level of ethics in every
interaction. Our actions demonstrate our integrity.” I learned this lesson as a way to live
my life. As I continue to expand my world, I will seek success with only the highest
standards of integrity.
