Statement of Purpose

Getting inducted into National University of Sciences and Technology for Civil Engineering after completing my A-
Levels, was like a dream come true. Through the course of my growing-up, I had always watched my father
showcase his expertise in this particular department as he ran his business of construction. I only hoped that one
day I could step up to assist him with his doings and possibly fill in his boots when the right time arrived.

I applied for being inducted into “Master of Technology (Civil)/ Master of Construction Management” course in
Swinburne International University and the University have been kind enough to grant me a chance to pursue my
future studies with them in the above mentioned course.

After completing my A-Levels, I started my bachelors in Civil Engineering from one of the most reputed institutes of
Pakistan, National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad. Civil engineering had always asserted a great
lure towards me because of the fact that my father runs a business of construction. My primary goal in life is to
assist him with his work after specializing in the field of civil engineering and this dream of mine looks set to be
completed after getting admission in Swinburne International University.

During my Bachelors degree, I chose Transportation and Construction Management as my main subject of electives
and I feel that further widening the scope of study in this particular field will assist me to master this aspect of Civil
Engineering with a better understanding of how things will shape up in the practical field.

Choosing Swinburne University was never difficult and once I shortlisted the number of universities in which I was
going to apply. Swinburne International was my top most priority, being regarded as one of the most elite education
providers in Australia.

Another striking revelation to me which helped identify Swinburne International as the best match was the fact that
they were providing a unique “Dual Specialization” degree, which definitely broadens the future horizons in which a
student can pursue his Civil Engineering career.

Also to add to this potentially benefitting perspective was the completeness of the engineering program listed.
Going thoroughly through the course contents, I was excited on how much effectively the course was blended with
subjects covering almost every core topic related to the Civil Engineering basics. This aspect of the selected course
ensures to bring the best out of the student by addressing all vital components of the field of Civil Engineering.

Another inspiring thing about Swinburne International which made me lock this particular choice as final is the
atmosphere of study that they provide through their state of the art facilities on the Hawthorn campus. Being one of
the finest institutes of Australia, I consider myself very blessed and lucky to have gotten admitted to this prestigious
and renowned institute.

Selecting Australia over all other countries for the sake of future studies was based on a number of facts that
combined to invoke in me a desire to further pursue my studies in this part of the world.

Starting with the educational perspective, a course of similar nature to the one that I have been inducted in is not
available anywhere in my home country and this made me look for alternatives beyond the coast. I found this
Master of Engineering program the best suit for my future aspirations and hence chose Swinburne International as
my main focus.

One of the main barriers that students have to cross while targeting studies abroad is the language barrier. Being an
English speaking country, Australia was the best suit for me as they provide education in a language that is
recognized worldwide.
Another attribute of Australia that needs mentioning is its ranking amongst the top student friendly countries on the
planet. It is a country which is regarded as a welcoming one that encourages students from all parts of the world to
further widen their educational demands and provides them with the perfect quality of education to muster their
needs in this particular department.

It is often said that go out and meet people of every race so that you get to know about them and about how to deal
with varying cultures of the people across the globe. Australia is the home of Cultural Diversity and it has become
one of its glaring strengths in the recent years. This has also shaped up as one of the motivating factors behind my
reason to choose Australia as the country of my future studies and I wish to meet people of varying cultures with the
hope that it would help me instill confidence in myself to interact with these folks. Consequentially this aspect of
living abroad will aid me in developing a better interacting manner and would resultantly make me a good fit for
providing services to my own country in the near future.

Australia is well known for its cost efficiency. Comparing with the likes of United States and the United Kingdom, the
study costs are a major share of percentage lesser. This factor of cost effectiveness has urged me to choose this
specific country above all other potential destinations of higher education. The living expenditures in Australia are
also very affordable as compared to other countries and this ticks another box in favor of the country that I have
chosen. Weather attributes there are also very suitable, as it is a country which enjoys a share of all sorts of climatic
conditions, just like my home country. This fact also will make living easier and help me settle at a quick note.

Education cannot be termed as useful if you do not intend to apply it to the situations where its application can yield
a better set of results. Throughout the course of my sixteen year education, my motive has been one; to serve my
country in the best manner with the skills that I have adorned. A quick glance at the state of Civil Engineering works
of the country yields the clear thoughts that matters have not been going as they should have. Precious lives have
been lost along with billions of rupees in Civil Engineering structure collapses during recent years.

In an under-developed country which faces potentially mountainous civil engineering works in the future, there is a
definite need of construction management techniques to be applied. I have hence planned to pursue this degree
offered by Swinburne International with one eye set to help my country go through the future phases of
construction in a better manner which would see the built structures fulfill their durability life. A lack of project
managing has cost the country a lot and my recent spell with a construction firm after completing my Bachelors
degree in June 2013 has highlighted the flaws of our departments of Civil Engineering.

I had always intended to obtain a specialization degree in civil engineering from a very reputed institute and now the
opportunity has presented itself. After successfully completing my Master of engineering program from Swinburne
International, my only aim is to come and establish myself as a successful Civil Engineer in my home country and
help my father in his business of construction through the valuable experience of quality education that I would
attain in Australia. The scope of construction related work in Pakistan is at an all time high and with projects started
in almost every part of the country, I believe that my education would deem very useful in establishing a Civil
Engineering firm that would eclipse all others through its quality of service providing. Swinburne International has
given me a chance to cast a jealous eye over my dream future and I’m more than grateful to them for providing me
with such an immaculate opportunity.
