SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN SCIENCE 9

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Describe the characteristics of stars based on the characteristics of Sun.
2. Appreciate the use and importance of HR Diagram to classify the characteristics
of stars.
3. Create their own star circle, draw Hertzsprung Diagram (HR-diagram) and plot
their own stars on it.

b. Interaction
 Motivation:
 Students will sing the nursery song “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” while
passing five small stars to their seatmates and to another.
 When the singing is stop, all students that got five stars will stand up in
front and will answer the riddle written on the star they’ve got.
Riddle #1: Too much of me can be harmful to the eyes. Sometimes I’m high and sometimes
I’m low. I have auto-mode on your phones. What am I? (Clue: 11 letters, starts with letter B,
ends with letter S)
Riddle #2: I’m on around you. I am on everything you can see. Without me, the world will be
plain, dull and no shades. What am I? (Clue: 5 letters, starts with letter C, ends with letter R)
Riddle #3: There are times I’m hot and there are times I’m cool. You can call me Kelvin,
Celsius and Fahrenheit. What am I? (Clue: 11 letters, starts with letter T, ends with letter E)
Riddle #4: I can be big. Sometimes I am medium and sometimes I am small. What am I?
(Clue: 4 letters, starts with letter S, ends with letter E)
Riddle #5: I am a property of matter. I usually measured in grams, kilograms, or pounds. But,
I’m not weight. What am I? (Clue: 4 letters, starts with letter M, ends with letter S)
Let the students share their idea about the connection of 5 words to the STARS.

Question to be ask:
How many star/stars we have in our solar system?
 Our solar system has only one star and this is the Sun.
Are planets considered as stars?
 No, because planets don't produce their own light.

Make a short essay regarding to the use and importance of Hertzsprung Diagram (HR
diagram) to classify the characteristics of stars and to categorize stars.

IV. ASSIGNMENT:
Search about 12 astrological signs. Find your own zodiac sign meaning and characteristic.
Share it to the class next meeting.
