Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of planning, installing and testing
computer systems and networks.

Performance Standard: The learner independently demonstrates the correct planning,


installing and testing of computer peripherals.
I. Objectives
At the end of the period, 100% of the student with 91% proficiency should be able to:
a. Familiarize oneself with computer ports in accordance with established procedures
correct operation and safety
b. Perform the proper connecting of personal computer peripherals

II. Subject Matter

The student will arrange the puzzle pieces to its right place and the puzzle pieces
will reveal the topic for the day.
2. Lesson Proper

Computer ports and its functions


When attaching hardware and peripherals of the computer, ensure that
they are connected to the correct locations or ports. You must know the different
ports that can be found at the back panel of the computer.
Ports allows user to:
 Upgrade processor
 Communicate to other devices
 Receives data

Port is defined as…


- a physical docking point using which an external device can be connected
to the computer. A port let users plug in outside peripherals, such as monitors,
scanners, printers, mouse and speakers.
Serial Port - A serial port is used to connect external modems or an older
computer mouse to the computer.
Parallel Port - A parallel port is used to connect external devices such as scanners
and printers.
PS/2 Port - It is used to connect a computer mouse or keyboard. Most computers
come with two PS/2 ports.
VGA (Video Graphic Array) Port - This connector is used to attached a computer
display monitor to a computers video card.
USB (Universal Serial Bus) Port - High speed serial interface that is used with
almost all devices. It is used to connect latest model printers, pen
drives, cell phones.
Audio Port - Connect microphone, speakers and headset to sound card of the
computer.
Ethernet Port - Used to connect a computer to a network. Connects to a network
and highspeed Internet.
HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) Port - Connect LED.
Power Port - Connects to the computer's power cable that plugs into a power bar
or wall socket.

Steps in Connecting Peripherals of a PC


STEP 1 : Attach the monitor cable to the video port
STEP 2 : Secure the cable by tightening the screws on the connector
STEP 3 : Plug the keyboard cable into the PS/2 keyboard port
STEP 4 : Plug the mouse cable into the PS/2 mouse port
STEP 5 : Plug the USB cable into a USB port
STEP 6 : Plug the network cable into the network port
STEP 7 : Plug the power cable into the power supply
C. Application
GAME: “ Minute to Win It ”
Instruction: Two (2) Students will be given 60 seconds to connect all the personal
computer peripherals correctly. Their performance will be graded
according to the rubrics given below:
