NARRATIVE REPORT ON NATIONAL READING MONTH CELEBRATION W/ PICTORIALS

S.Y. 2019 – 2020

I NARRATIVE

Everyone knows that reading is important, but have you ever asked yourself why
that is so? Through reading, you expose yourself to new things, new information, new
ways to solve a problem, and new ways to achieve one thing. You begin to understand
the world more. You have a greater understanding on a topic that interest you; for
example: how to build self- confidence, how to make plan better before taking action,
how to memorize things better and more. The more you read, the more you understand
one thing. When you are reading, you are actually gaining the knowledge and
experience of someone. Through reading, you build a more solid foundation for
communication. It is one of the most important tools we use every day to connect with
each other. Whereas if you don’t read, you can’t even connect with the world and what
people are talking about out there, including understanding what this article is all
about. Reading connects you with the world.

To develop student’s love of reading, Mandilikit National High School joined the
national observation of the annual National Reading Month this November. In
compliance to Division Memorandum No. 750 ,s, 2019 which states that November is
designated as the National Reading Month. The Department of Education (DepEd)
spearheaded the celebration of the 2019 National Reading Month (NRM) with the theme,
Magbasa’t Umunlad to promote the love for reading. This is in connection with Deped’s
commitment to provide quality, accessible, relevant, and liberating basic education for
all and to lay the foundation for lifelong learning and service for the common good.

November marks the National Reading Month, our school as spearheaded by our
School Head Mrs. Rolelie A. Sombilon, prepared various reading activities made
available for the students. Activities were scheduled by grade level, without disruption
of classes.

II OBJECTIVES
a. To develop pupils’ love for reading.
b. To enhance pupils reading level performance through constant remediation.
c. To develop pupils’ reading comprehension through different reading materials.

IV. DOCUMENTATIONS

Finally, on November 27 at exactly 9:00 in the morning the school conducted “Araw
ng Pagbasa Challenge”. All learners, teachers and school personnel participated in
the synchronized reading. Every grade teacher used different book and read
interesting stories that the pupils were surely love! The students sat on the floor
with their seat –upon, mouth closed as they listened attentively as the teacher reads
the story. The students truly enjoyed the role they played according to its
characters. They showed varied emotions as we went through the different
adventures that each character undertook.
The teachers allowed selected pupils to read some lines in the story and be able to
retell on their own understanding. After the storytelling the teacher raised HOTS
questions in order to measure student’s comprehension. Some teachers gave written
exams while others conducted reenactment of the story they heard.
Indeed, reading of book especially storytelling is a great help to enhance reading
proficiency level of our learners.
