FOUNDATIONAL COURSE FOR SCHOOL HEADS
Duration 3 hours
Session Objectives: Stated as At the end of the session, the school heads should be able to:
Behavioral Outcome Objectives (e.g., o Identify Priority Improvement Areas (PIAs);
Appreciate, Create, Define, Explain): o Set SMART objectives in the School Improvement Plan;
o Determine the voice of the customer (VOC) by using prescribed tools; and
o Surface root causes of PIAs.
Contribution to Workshop It is the greatest desire of educators that every school in the country will improve so that learning outcomes will
Outcomes also improve. The SIP is a three-year roadmap prepared by a team through the help of the community and
other stakeholders that lays down the specific interventions to be implemented.
Key Understanding The Assess phase of the SIP development process aims to Identify/Review the Priority Improvement Areas (PIA).
Analysis of the PIA will lead into a more comprehensive understanding of school issues, which should lead to the
identification of interventions.
Link with the Previous Session Continuous Improvement is an essential principle in school improvement. In the next few sessions, school heads
will be trained to develop school improvement plans that interface well with Continuous Improvement principles.
Link with the Next Session In the next session, we will go through the different phases in the SIP cycle. In the Assess phase of SIP
development, school heads will learn how to identify priority improvement areas that they will need to develop
solutions for in succeeding SIP phases.
