    Softball Scoring Practice

    Instructions: Below you will find word descriptions of what occurred in each inning of a softball
    game. Your job is to take what is written and use it to correctly fill out the score sheet. The
    information given is in sequential order. After you complete this activity, you can find an answer
    sheet on the webpage. You may use the answer sheet to check your answers.

    NOTE: Make sure you print off a copy of the score sheet template to complete this activity.

    Positions
    ● First you will correctly need to label each player's position on the score sheet using the
    correct number. Below I will list each player’s name and position for you.
    ○ Ellie - ShortStop
    ○ Abby - Center Fielder
    ○ Julia - 3rd Baseman
    ○ Caroline - Catcher
    ○ Peyton - Pitcher
    ○ Sarah - 1st Baseman
    ○ Shea - Left Fielder
    ○ Jennings - Right Fielder
    ○ Emily - 2nd Baseman

    Inning 1
    1. Ellie is at bat. She hits a double. Before hitting a double, she had 1 strike and 2 balls.
    2. Abby is at bat. She hits a single. Before hitting a single, she had 2 strikes and 1 ball.
    NOTE: On Abby’s hit, Ellie advanced to third base.
    3. Julia is at bat. Julia strikes out. Before striking out, Julia had 2 balls and 2 strikes.
    NOTE: This is out one.
    4. Caroline is at bat. She hits a double. Before hitting a double, she had 1 strike and 0 balls.
    NOTE: On this hit, both Ellie and Abby advance two bases. Ellie scores a run. Abby
    advances to third base.
    5. Peyton is at bat. She hits a ground ball to the shortstop who throws the ball to first for an
    out. Before hitting the ground ball, Peyton had 1 strike and 1 ball.
    NOTE: This is the second out. No one advances.
    6. Sarah is at bat. She hits double on her first swing.
    NOTE: On this hit, both Abby and Caroline score.
    7. Shea is at bat. Shea strikes out. Before striking out, Shea had 2 strikes and 1 ball.
    NOTE: This is the third out. Time to switch innings.
    Inning 2
    1. Jennings is at bat. She hits a single. Before hitting a single, she had 1 strike and 1 ball.
    2. Emily is at bat. Emily is walked. Before being walked, Emily had 1 strike and 3 balls.
    NOTE: Emily moves to first automatically; therefore, Jennings advances to second base.
    3. Ellie is at bat. Ellie hits a fly ball to center field and the ball is caught for an out. Before
    hitting the fly ball, Ellie had 1 strike and 1 ball.
    NOTE: Ellie is the first out. Both Jennings and Emily tagged up and advanced to the next
    base. Therefore, Jennings is now at third base and Emily is at second.
    4. Abby is at bat. Abby hits a ground ball to the 3rd baseman who throws the ball to first for
    an out. Before hitting the ground ball, Abby had 1 strike and 2 balls.
    NOTE: This is the second out. No one advances.
    5. Julia is at bat. Julia hits a single. Before hitting a single, Julia had 1 strike and 0 balls.
    NOTE: Everyone advanced one base. Therefore, Jennings scored and Emily is at third.
    6. Caroline is at bat. She strikes out. Before striking out, Caroline had 2 strikes and 0 balls.
    NOTE: This is the third out. Time to switch innings.

    1. Peyton is at bat. She hits a triple. Before hitting a triple, she had 1 strike and 0 balls.
