I. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

They story behind the name of Tambo

“Shortly after the arrival of the Spaniards, there was a large detachment of Spanish
soldiers in the town of Lipa. Some of these soldiers would go to barrio sometimes for
pleasures, for explorations or hunting for food supplies. Some of these soldiers were riding
on horseback. One day they were going to the western part of the town. The road was very
poor. They have gone than two kilometers. The soldiers decided to get some rest when they
felt exhaustion started to crawl upon them. Not far from their resting place they saw a small
nipa hut. In front of the nipa hut, there was a native making broom out of a kind of grass
called ‘TAMBO’. Tambo grass during that time grew in abundance in this place. The man,
upon seeing the white men became a little bit frightened and nervous. The Spaniards,
seeing the uneasiness of the man, just nodded their heads and smiled at him. The Spanish
soldiers, not knowing a bit of the Tagalog dialect were still inquisitive. They did not know the
name of the place, so they asked the native about it. The man thinking that they were asking
about the name of the grass answered, ‘Tambo, Tambo’. The white men nodded their heads
again, thanked the man and went on their way, repeating the word, ‘Tambo, Tambo’.
From that time on the place that is two kilometers from the town of Lipa is named
‘Tambo’.” – Jose Rico Recio.

IV. INFRASTRUCTURES & UTILITIES (short description eg. location and size)

a. Drainage and Sewerage

These drainages are located along President Jose P. Laurel,Highway,Lipa,Batangas.

Usually, Highway drainages are commonly seen around Tambo area. These big concrete
cement drainages were built not only to drain massive volumes of water but also functions
as sidewalks.

b. Barangay Hall
Pamahalaang Barangay ng Tambo is located at MP Casanova St. along the road of
President Jose P. Laurel Hyw, Lipa, Batangas beside Tambo Elementary School. It is a two
storey blue building with few facilities. It was founded way back 2004. There are some
scratches, smudges, and mold around the establishment which only signifies how old it is!

c. Barangay Plaza

Tambo Plaza or also known as ‘Old Plaza of Tambo’ is located also along President Jose P.
Laurel Hwy, Lipa, Batangas. Whenever there are fiestas or any barangay event, visiting
Tambo Plaza is a must on the list. Although it seems like a simple basketball court or a
parking lot sometimes, it is surprisingly often used as venue of barangay programs such as
Miss Gays, PaBingo and etc. Additionally, this is where Annual Tambo Sports fest held with
the Committee in charge SK Chairperson Hon. Mary Lois Gandeza.
d. Church/Chapel
The Divina Pastora Parish is situated at 135 Dao Street Villa Lourdes Subdivision, Lipa. It
was established in 2016. It is painted with pleasing pastel colors shaded in orange. The
architecture of this chapel stands out among the chapels around Lipa since it is larger than
the usual chapel around its extensions. Despite its exquisite contemporary structure and
designs, baroque architecture never missed to influence its exterior and interior designs.

e. Daycare

The Tambo Daycare is a newly established daycare at Jose P. Laurel Hwy, Lipa, Batangas
beside Tambo’s Plaza. It is covered with colorful complimentary paints and guarded by
painted white bars for security issues. The proportions are quite compact yet seemingly
cozy and convenient for the students at the same time.

Meanwhile, these are the public schools of Tambo which I actually visited:

● Tambo Elementary School

Tambo Elementary School lies upon on the half of a hectare at MP Casanova St, Lipa,
Batangas beside Pamahalaang Barangay ng Tambo. Regardless of the modernization of
Tambo, Tambo Elementary School remained an eco-friendly school through setting the goal
of preserving various types of trees throughout its area. In spite of some vintage looking
classrooms, they’re well equipped with high technology tools and gadgets as teaching aids
which would bring their competitiveness within their students into a 21st century education
experience.

● Paninsingin Elementary School

Paninsingin Elementary School is located at Villa Lourdes Subdivision, Paninsingin, 4217,

Lipa, Batangas. It was established in 1960 with 3 rooms only. However, through the help of
the kindest of local and even international donors made this school even more productive
and to enhance the educational effectiveness towards underprivileged communities.
g. Health center

They only have 1 health center with 16 Barangay Health Workers and 3 Barangay Nutrition
Scholars. It is located behind the Pamahalaang Barangay ng Tambo at MP Casanova St,
