- Introduction
Now that you are all energized, let us
now proceed to our next lesson. Our
lesson for today entitled Topic
Sentence. Do you know what Topic
Sentence is?
“No, Ma’am”

Before we go to Topic Sentence, Let us

first review what a Paragraph is.
Paragraph is a word derived from the
Greek word “para” which means “by the
side of” and “graphien” which means
“to write”. We refer to a group of
unified sentences. Every good
paragraph must develop this idea only
one main thought. The sentence that
expresses develop this kernel idea is
called the Topic Sentence.
- Discussion
Okay, Topic Sentence introduces the
reader to exactly what you are writing
about in you paragraph or essay. It is
clear and concise. It can occur anywhere
in the Introductory Paragraph, but they
are often placed at the beginning of the
paragraph. They are interesting and
grabbing attention.

The Topic Sentence may be found in

any part of a paragraph. It may be found
at the beginning or was illustrated in
inverted triangle, in the middle or was
illustrated to a diamond and at the end
of the paragraph or was illustrated in
triangle. Let us illustrate our topic using
the Hamburger Paragraph. The top bun
is the Topic Sentence. The juicy details
are the Supporting details. The bottom
bun can be represented as the
concluding sentence.

“A good senator is a composite of
several intangibles. He must emanate
ultimate good faith. He or she knows
when to compromise and must be
willing to abide dissent. He or she has
the ability to concentrate on what is
important and necessary. A good
senator must be skilful in sensing what
may be accomplished and what may
not. And above all, he or she must have
