to having interpersonal skills. These are also called “People Skills”. In addition, interpersonal
communication is communication that occurs between more than one person including both
verbal and nonverbal communication.

successful career. Since interpersonal skills are soft skills, not hard, they can valuable to
employers since it is crucial to have a positive and precise work environment. These skills can
be applied to any industry but some industries that I decided to highlight are nursing, customer
service, education, counseling, and human resources.

Third Slide: The list of interpersonal skills include but are not limited to
Active Listening
Dependability
Empathy
Leadership
Teamwork

Fourth slide:

Active Listening - This is when you pause everything that you are working on just to listen to the
other person talk. This is important in customer service but also in education.

Dependability: It is important to be reliable when working with people in an educational or

hospital setting. Being able to keep a promise is important since it creates feelings of
trustworthiness with the other person. Being able to commit to promises will also lead to larger
roles in a company or future opportunities for advancement.

Empathy: A work should be intelligence with emotions and be able to read non-verbal signs. A
patient may be having a bad day to their illness so it is important to be sympathetic towards
them. For a teacher, a student may have woken up on the wrong side of the bed or maybe
having problems at home that can disrupt their education. Empathy is also needed for
counselors and customer service.

Leadership: Leaders carry interpersonal skills as they lead a group. Leaders need to be gain the

leaders need when creating a decision.

Teamwork: The ability to work with more than one person in the workplace. The people who
exhibit great teamwork in the workplace are highly valued by their superiors and can lead to
more opportunities for advancement in pay and position.

Tip: Be sure to ask for help from a colleague/co-worker who can review your skills. Also attend
workshops on the topic, in order to hone your skills.

Teachers: Teachers are great examples of leaders since they supervise classes of 15+ students
in their educational goals. The teacher needs to listen to the student to vent and communicate
their feelings. Empathic and patience teachers are needed in order to ensure a healthy and
positive learning environment.

Administrative Assistants: They must be reliable and be in contact with clients and the other
staff when necessary.

Seventh Slide:

Customer Service Associates: Customer service employees must be willing to be patient with
the customer and be ready to hear any frustrations or upsets from the customer. It can be
difficult to work in customer service when a customer is disappointed with something that did not
occur because of you.

Therapist/Counselor: Both occupations require outstanding communication skills as well as

empathy for clients. The occupation requires you to create a comfortable environment so the
client can open up any personal details about their mental health or issue.
