4-A’s SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN


Oral Communication Skills 12

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the session, the students can:
a. determine the five styles of speech ;
b. perform a speech applying a style; and
c. value the importance of the styles of speech in daily life.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


a. Topic : The Style of Speech
b. Materials : Informative text, marker
c. Reference : Oral Communication in Context SHS, page 38-46
d. OWAD : Style – a distinctive manner of expression.

III. PROCEDURE/STRATEGY
a. Motivation
 The students will set a timer to ten minutes.
 The students will sit back and relax.
 The students will then recall what was going through their mind during the first two
minutes. How about at five minutes? The last two minutes?
 The students will remember what the things they think about are.

b. Activity
 The class will be grouped into 2 with 5 members each group.
 The students will share their cool down thoughts to their group members and will
record their group sharing.
 The students will be given ten minutes to do the activity.

c. Analysis
 The teacher will then ask the following questions to the students:
1. Did you have similar thoughts with your group mates?
2. Did you have different thoughts from your group mates?
3. Were you happy sharing your thoughts from your group mates?
4. Were you hesitant to share your thoughts? Why? Why not?
5. What did you learn from the group sharing?

d. Abstraction
 The teacher will introduce the topic of the day.
 The teacher will let the students read the objectives.
 The teacher will discuss the topic about the style of speech.
 The teacher will also discuss the five styles of speech by presenting examples to each
style.
e. Application
 The students will pick the name of their partner from a bowl.
 The pair will pick a topic form another bowl.
 The partners will find a comfortable place to do the activity for ten minutes.
 The partner may start with answering who, what, when, where, why and how questions
on the topic drawn.
 The student should listen to their partner with the use of eye contact, nodding,
encouraging and asking questions.
 After the allotted time, pair presentation will follow.

f. Generalization
 The teacher will ask the questions to the students:
1. How will you value the importance of knowing the five styles of speech?
2. Will you be able to apply those styles in your day-to-day life basis? In what way?

IV. EVALUATION
 The teacher will conduct a short quiz.
 The class will be given 10 minutes to answer the questions.
 After 10 minutes, checking of papers will follow.

V. ASSIGNMENT
 The teacher will let the students read first the OWAD.
 The teacher will let the students read the direction of the assignment.

Direction: What television or radio advertisement can you recall? Why can you easily recall this
advertisement?
