Subject : Examination leading to the Post Certificate Bachelor of Science in


Nursing Examination to be held in first half of 1999.

WHEREAS, the Hon. Governor of the Maharashtra promulgated Maharashtra


Ordinance No.11 of 1998 to establish Maharashtra University of Health Sciences on 3rd
June, 1998, which has been passed as Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Act,
1998 by the Maharashtra State Legislature, for the purposes of ensuring proper and
systematic instruction, teaching, training and research in modern medicine and Indian
Systems of Medicines, Pharmaceutical Sciences and paramedical courses in the State of
Maharashtra and to have balanced growth in health Sciences so also an uniformity in
various courses in Health Sciences in the State.

AND WHEREAS, it is a duty of the University to hold Examinations of the


courses conducted by the University as provided under the sub Section (ii) of Section 5
of an Ordinance,

AND WHEREAS, the University has decided to conduct the First Year
P.C.B.Sc.Nursing Examinations in first half of 1999-2000 and Second Year P.C.B.Sc.
Nursing Examination in first half of 2000.

AND WHEREAS, conduct of examinations is a subject matter of Ordinance as


provided under sub Section (vi) of Section (50) of the Act.

AND WHEREAS, ordinance for conduct of an examination leading to the Degree


of P. C. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (First Year P.C.B.Sc.) is not in existence.

AND WHEREAS making of an ordinance is a time taking process.

Now, therefore, I, Dr.D.G. Dongaonkar, Vice-Chancellor of the University in


exercise of the powers conferred upon me under sub section (8) of section 16 of the Act,
issue following directions.

(1) These directions shall be called “Examinations leading to the Degree of P. C.


Bachelor of Science in Nursing (First Year Examination) direction, 1998.

(2) These directions shall come into force with effect from the date of its issuance.

(3) There shall be following examinations leading to the Degree of P. C. B.Sc.


Nursing.
1. The First Year P.C.B.Sc. Nursing Examinations.

2. The Second Year P.C.B.Sc. Nursing Examinations.

(4) The Examinations referred to in paragraph 3 shall be held twice a year at such
places and on such dates as may be appointed by Board of Examinations.
(5) An applicant for admission to examination shall fulfill criteria as prescribed by
Govt. of Maharashtra from time to time as in Appendix - A appended herewith GR
of admission.

(6) Duration of Course : Two academic years.

(7) The course contents of the P.C. B.Sc. Nursing shall be as per appendix B appended
herewith.

(8) The detail course content for each subject shall be as per appendix C appended
herewith.

(9) The scheme of examination shall be as per Appendix D appended herewith.

(13) Vacation : Total Eight weeks in a year which includes Two weeks Diwali
Vacation, Two weeks Christmas Vacation and Four weeks summer vacation as
prescribed by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences,Nashik from time to time
.
Students will be given all public holidays declared by the State Government of
Maharashtra/Maharshtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik

Note : The individual university and its Board of Studies has the previlege of
changing the sequence of subject or making addition and deletion of any course
of study provided that the subject matter or content is covered at some phase of
the programme.

The Scheme of Examination and distribution of marks shall be fixed by the


Board of Studies keeping in mind the academic load of each subject, minimum
requirements prescribed by Indian Nursing Council.

Criteria for Internal Assessment F, i

Appendix F : For internal assessment separate evaluation forms are enclosed for First
year and Second year separately.

- Periodical short test objective types of questions have to be asked.


- For average of internal assessment marks, performance in terminal and
preliminary exams and periodical short test should be calculated.
- The candidate should secure 50% marks in internal assessment in theory and
practical.
- There should be a gap of three weeks before the completion of preliminary exam
and commencement of first professional University examination.
- Internal assessment marks to be sent to University is shown in enclosed
evaluation form in theory and practicals one month before University
examination.
- Internal assessment marks are calculated for ranking system.
- In each subject candidate must obtain minimum of 50% of passing separately in
theory and practicals. Those successful candidates who pass the examination at
one and the same time and obtain 50% or more marks shall be declared to have
passed the examination in second class, 60% or more marks in first class, 75%
and above in first class with distinction. A candidate passing an examination
within the minimum prescribed period for the examination and obtaining not less
than 75% of the total marks prescribed in a subject shall be declared to have
passed the examination with distinction in that subject.
- The record of internal assessment marks must be properly maintained.
- There may be surprise inspection of internal assessment record by an authorised
officer of the University.
- There will be no A.T. K. T.
- There should be three attempts for appearing for examinations (Actual
examination in sequence).
- Students should be made aware of internal assessment marks.
- 25 % of objective type of questions out of total marks should be administered
separately at University examination.
- There should be 25% for theory and practical separately. 50% term exam, 50%
periodical exam.
- Board will specify methods of test.
- Printed format of case study, Seminars, care plans, family study and internal
assessment form to be supplied by the University.

Criteria for Eligibility for University Examination

- Attendance : 75% in lectures and 80% in non-lecture teaching programme.


- Practicals : There should be one internal and one external examiner.
- There should provision for re-totaling of marks within two months.

1. All nursing teachers must possess a basic University or equivalent qualification


as laid down in the schedules of the Indian Council Act, 1947. They shall be
registered under the State Nursing Registration Act.

2. Nursing lecturer in nursing college except demonstrator/assistant lecturers must


prossess the requisite recognised post graduate qualification in nursing subjects.
3. Holders of equivalent post graduate qualification which may be approved by the
INC from time to time, may be considered have the requisite recognised post
graduate qualification in the subject concerned.

4. All teachers of nursing other than principal and vice-principal should spend at
least 4 hours in the clinical area for clinical teaching and / or supervision of care
every day.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course will help students to develop understanding of the philosophy,


objective and responsibilities of Nursing as a profession. The purpose of the course is
to orient one to the current concepts involved in the practice of Nursing developments
in the Nursing profession.

OBJECTIVES
1. Identify professional aspects of Nursing.
2. Explain Theories of Nursing.
3. Identify ethical aspect of Nursing profession.
4. Utilise steps of nursing process.
5. Identify the role of nurse in various levels of health services.
6. Appreciate the significance of quality assurance in Nursing.

UNIT - I
Development of Nursing as a profession and its philosophy. Objectives and
responsibilities of a graduate nurse. Trends influencing nursing practice,
expanded role of the nurse. Development of nursing education in India and
trends in Nursing education - professional organisations, ten years planning.

UNIT - II
Ethical and legal issues in Nursing practice, trends in planning Nursing practice,
expanded role, concept of health and illness, effects on the person, stress and
adaptation.
Health care concept and Nursing care concept, developmental concept, need,
roles and problems of the developmental stages of individual - Newborn, infant,
toddlers, preadolescent, adolescent, adulthood, middle age, old age.

Theory of Nursing practice - Metaparadigm of Nursing - characterised by for
central concept, i.e. Nurse, person (Client / patient) health and environment.
Five theories Virginia Hendersons Theory, Imogene King's General system
framework, Dorothy Orem's self care framework, Martha Rogers Science of

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this course is to widen the students knowledge and develop
proficiency in caring for patients with medical surgical problems. This course
includes review of relevant anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology in medical
surgical disorders and the Nursing management of these conditions.

OBJECTIVES
(1) Explain relevant anatomy and physiology of various systems of the body.
(2) Explain pathophysiology and biochemistry, biophysics in various disorders, in
applied form.
(3) Explain the actions, side effects and Nursing implications in administering drugs
in various disorders.
(4) Discuss the various advancement in diagnosis, treatment and care of patients
with medical surgical conditions.
(5) Develop skill in giving comprehensive Nursing care to patients following the
steps of Nursing process.
(6) Assist the patient and his family in identifying and meeting their own health
needs.
(7) Assist for different diagnostic procedures and operations related to medical
surgical conditions.
(8) Appreciate the role of the nurse in the medical surgical health team in the
hospital and in the community. (referral follow-up camps)

MATERNAL NURSING

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to widen the student's knowledge of obstetrics during


pregnancy, labour and Puerperium. It also helps to acquire knowledge and develop
skill in rendering optimum Nursing care to a child bearing mother in a hospital or
community and help in the management of common gynaecological problems.

OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course, the student will;


(1) Describe the physiology of pregnancy, labour and Puerperium and manage
normal conditions.
(2) Explain the physiology of lactation and manage post - partum period.
(3) Be skilled in providing pre and post operative Nursing care in obstetric conditions.

(4) Identify and manage high risk pregnancy, labour and post natal mother.
(5) Teach, guide, supervise the Basic Nursing students and help in continuing
education.
(6) Implement family welfare programme.
