LESSON PLAN Date:

Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction

Grade 12- PERSISTENCE

I- OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARD

1. The learners demonstrate understanding of fire hazards and related concepts

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD

1. The learners develop a family emergency preparedness plan to guide them on what to do before, during and after a
fire incident

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES

1. The learners recognize elements of the fire triangle in different situations

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Fire Triangle
Materials:Tarpapel, chalk, eraser, laptop
References: Textbook and teaching guide

III. PROCEDURE:

Preparatory Activity
Greetings Good Morning class!
Checking of Let us check the attendance. Say present if your name is called.
Attendance
Seat Arrangement Students, arrange your seat.
Classroom Rules (………….)
Other matters Pls. copy on your notes the selected contents of the visual aid while at the same time listen to the
lecture.
Preparatory Activity
ELICIT  Review of previous competencies
 Different hazards under hydrometeriological phenomena
 Available tools for monitoring hydrometeriological hazards
 Practices before, during and after the hazards to lessen disaster
 Overview of the previous lesson
 Introduce new objective and present list of words to be encountered later on the discussion
Fire Element Fire Tetrahedron Oxidation Fuel Heat
Chain reaction
Stimulating Questions: What is fire? What are the innovations following the
discovery of fire? What are the comforts brought by fire?
ENGAGE
Pair Activity: Pros and Cons
Direction.
1. Ask the learners to get a piece of paper and fold it in two.
2. On one side, they need to write what could be considered as a positive qualities of fire.
2. On the other, they need to write what could be considered as negative qualities of fire.
3. Give them 5 minutes to come up with their lists.
4. Afterwards, ask the learners to form pairs and discuss what they have written.
5. Call on two learners to share their lists to the class.
EXPLORE The two learners will present their list in front of the class. The class must assess if they have same
answers for pros and cons as well as supply what other benefits and drawback they are able to
identify. (Overview from the learners about the positive and negative qualities of fire)
What is the goal of human regarding fire?
How do we prevent fire from happening in the first place?
How can we minimize the destruction brought by fire?
What elements or factors can we eliminate to avoid accidents involving fire?

EXPLAIN Recall and sharing of past experiences

1. Let the learners recall instances where they have witnessed fire.
2. Ask the learners what could be the materials needed to make fire.
3. Tell the learners that fire needs three elements for it to be formed and that they will find out what
the fire triangle is based on experiments.
4. Prepare the materials needed for the experiment: candle, matches, glass jar/ cup, safety goggles,
and notebook or worksheet

Group Activity: Fire Triangle Experiment

Direction:
1. Divide the class into groups of 4-5 learners each. (Tip on groupings and rubrics)
2. Remind the learners that they should have their worksheet for instruction while
conducting the activity
3. Remind the class to be careful in handling both matches, candle and cup
4. Give the groups a part of triangle to write their observation

ELABORATE Videopresentation: “Fire Triangle”

Ask the class to take note of the elements and the definition of the list of words (presented in Elicit)
mentioned.

Bridging of the activity and the video presented

Elements of the fire triangle

Materials representing the elements of a fire triangle

Conclusion by the students

Further examples can be given for enrichment.

EVALUATE Direction: The learners will evaluate and list down the fire triangle from these situations.
1. Bonfire lit while camping
2. Lighting strike a tree
3. Grilling barbeque using charcoal
EXTEND Make a plan or recommendation on how to reduce if not eliminate possibility of occurrence of fire on
the puroks of Palumbanes that are heavily populated.
