Identify the problem described in this case study. What management, organization, and
technology factors contributed to this problem?
The problem relates to a higher cost of funding because the central bank strengthen their rules
and regulations while the company has no reliable assets with a yield down the road. Because of
dual impact banks, banks are limiting their restrictions in terms of lending.
Contribution of Management/People: The problem is related with security. There was a lack
of communication in updating the management about the security problems they were facing in
which they could have protected themselves sooner against the attacks if they were being kept
up-to-date.
Contribution of Organization: The organization did not create effective strategies which
resulted in them facing lower revenue as well as many critical situations
Contribution of Technology: Deutsche Bank was using outdated technology which made it
very difficult for them to secure important financial data in their systems

Was DB using technology effectively to pursue its business strategy? Explain.
Throughout the article, there were many statements brought up regarding the poor performance
in technology on behalf of Deutsche Bank It was repeatedly stated that the technology was
“inadequate”, antique, as well as fragmented. It states in the article: “U.S.regulators have
identified Deutsche Bank's antiquated technology as one reason why the bank was not always
able to provide the correct information for running its business properly and responding to
regulators.”.This clearly indicates how Deutsche Bank were incapable of properly organizing
their clients information. Aside from that, technology seemed to be apart of many of their
business strategies

What solution for DB was proposed? How effectively do you think it will be? Explain your
answer.
The solution that was proposed for Deutsche Bank was to first bring in John Cryan as the new
CEO of the company. After that, Cryan wanted to ultimately reduce costs and improving
efficiency by laying off thousands of employees. Through this idea, Cryan wanted to improve the
banks software and technology so he appointed technology specialist Kim Hammonds to oversee
reengineering and the banks information systems and operations. Deutsche Bank also decided to
withdraw from high-risk client relationships, improve its control framework, and also its
automating manual reconciliations. Along with doing that, Deutsche Bank announced a 10 year,
multibillion dollar deal with HP in hopes of improving their IT infrastructure and technology
platform. In my opinion, I believe the solution will be very effective due to the fact that it helps
save the company a lot of money long term as well as making the bank progress to a more secure
and efficient system of banking.
