Q-1 what are the innovations/ frugal engineering mechanisms that
DHAN implemented in the creation of the hospital at Theni?

 There are three mechanism designs thinking, bricolage and social


movement are used in innovation. Frugal engineering mechanism.
Dhan foundation is based on the Southern Indian State of Tamil
Nadu was a non-govt, organization with a difference. It was neither
a philanthropic organization nor a service organization but a
development organization focused on gross roots development
aided by professional management.
There are 4 different types of innovation mentioned: -
 Incremental
 Disruptive
 Architectural
 Radical

In this case Disruptive innovation issued to target low income market


and people low cost health care delivery innovations used. There are
cool healthcare innovations such as blood flow analyzer made using
laser technology; a virtual navigation stick for the blind is created
using ultrasonic sensor.

Q-2 What lessons does the frugal engineering by DHAN hold for the
corporate sector in terms of delivering high-quality services at a low
cost and reaching out to remote areas and marginalized sections of
society?

 Since, the outbreak of the global financial crisis business and govt,
in developed economies are more focused on a single metric than
ever before sustainable affordability. The survival depends on
cutting back on the wasteful ways of the part and is an opportunity
for reinvention through perhaps creative destruct.
Consequently an opportunity to learn and adapt more frugal and
sustainable ways in innovation has emerged.
In this case a framework based on lesson in frugal innovations
derived from emerging market experiences.
Frugal innovation results in affordable product and services
through minimising the use of resources or by leveraging them in
many ways.
The lesson from successful frugal innovation in emerging countries
is important. They provide a continuous and sustainable innovation
approach and help businesses and govt in the developed economies
stay relevant to their stakeholders.

Q-3 what are the factors that need to be considered in forging


sustainable joint ventures, so that the projects are not abandoned
midway?

 There are various factors that need to be considered: -


i. Know your partner. This is obvious.
ii. Know your partner’s national culture.
iii. Decide on the respective notes in details at the start.
iv. Discuss contingencies before the argument is signed.
v. Create a detailed social venture argument.
vi. Clear performance indicators.
vii. Keep good records.
