Reaction/ Reflection Paper No.2

A. The-Three (3) most significant learning that I got from the topics discussed:

(1)Currently, higher education is shifting to a market-oriented environment where

customer satisfaction is critical. Philosophies such as Total Quality Management (TQM)

have been successfully adopted by business organizations and are generally

considered the way forward.(2) This article reports the results of a survey aimed at

investigating different perspectives on applying industrial quality management principles

to higher education.(3) The interpretation of basic terms (such as quality, measurement

and customer) and the applicability of TQM, quality standards and the application of

quality in higher education are the main issues that are being questioned. The results

show that although the basic principles have been generally accepted in the new

environment due to the complexity and dynamics of education, there are still

reservations about the way of operation.

B. These learning are of value to me personally because

it give us benefits in aligning quality management with organizational change, and to

describe the circumstances under which such consistency can be achieved. Design-

This article starts with the similarities between the difficulties associated with

organizational change and the difficulties found when implementing a quality

management system in higher education. From this preliminary analysis, the

characteristics of the quality management system that contribute to organizational

change are highlighted. A case study is presented, which includes several (but not all)

features that support organizational change, and the lessons learned from implementing

this quality management system are used to draw conclusions. The survey results

found that a quality management system that accepts variability and diversity is more

suitable for creating the necessary conditions for organizational change. It has also

been found that, in the context of higher education institutions, promoting academic

success is a good choice to unify shared beliefs at the organizational level, and

because it is easier to change with the support of shared beliefs, the quality

management system will benefit from the centralization of academic The core goal of

success. Practical significance-Because knowledge is local and regional in the first

place, reporting on local experience helps to better understand the challenges faced by

those who wish to implement an effective quality management system in higher

education institutions.

C. I would like to react or comment on the topic

Teachers take initiative to learn and keep abreast of the latest developments, to

innovate, continuously seek improvement in their work and strive for individual and

institutional excellence Teacher quality has a direct relation to learning outcome to the

extent that it is a major determinant of the overall quality index of the

institution..because

The quality of teachers affects the development, implementation and modification of

courses-enhances the potential for research, consultation and expansion, makes full

use of infrastructure and learning resources, contributes to the support and

development of students, provides leadership and good management, all of which are

Brings innovation and best practices. Various studies on higher education innovation

and quality, including strategic planning of higher education institutions, innovation and

best practices can change higher education institutions

D. What have you discovered about yourself, about the topic?

I have observed that the quality in higher education is more about fitness of purpose

which relates directly with the university mission and objectives for the stakeholder(s)

instead of fitness for purpose, and that university stakeholder(s) influence the meanings

of quality.

E. How has your understanding changed?

My understanding with TQM changed by looking at the current higher education system

that has poor teaching quality, inconsistent curriculum, excessive prices, and

insufficient management capacity. The global market requires skilled and talented labor,

which can only be created through high-quality education. Unlike industrial products,

managing the quality of education is a difficult task, but quality is the only currency that

is generally accepted. This is also the case when the product is education. We know

very well that education quality leads to future development, and quality improvement is

a Endless process. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on the quality of education. Due

attention should be paid to different educational classes such as schools, colleges and

universities. In order to solve the quality management problem, different organizations

have adopted different quality management strategies, and Total Quality Management

(TQM) is one of them. TQM is considered to have great potential to meet the

challenges. It can be used as a means to increase student / teacher morale, increase

productivity and provide higher quality services to internal and external customers

F. What have you decided about the issue at this point?

It is appropriate to have a good leadership when implementing TQM. Leaders should be

able to establish a viable corporate vision, be willing to initiate change, and provide the

resources needed for the team to achieve the vision. Senior management may wish to

obtain the results that TQM can bring, but may not fully support it. Top management

should view TQM as a strategy and make it clearly visible with clear commitment to its

philosophy.

G. How will your changed understanding express itself in your job/ teaching?

TQM's philosophy encourages students, teachers and employees to perform well. As a

potential paradigm, we can obtain the benefits of total quality management in public and

private educational institutions. TQM can help schools or colleges provide better

services to their major customers; students and employers. TQM's continuous

improvement focus is on basic methods to meet the common accountability

requirements of educational reform.

H. Additional discoveries, insights, questions

For me it is unjust to say that the graduating students are the finished product of

education. Students are non-standard people, they have a series of experiences,

emotions and characteristics, so treating them such as   the product lacks the

complexity of the learning process as a unique learner.
