Objective:
Locate information from a dictionary

A DICTIONARY – is made up of entry words listed in


alphabetical order. Each entry states how a word is
pronounced part of speech and what the word means.
Parts of the Dictionary
Entry words are words listed in the dictionary.
Guide words are the two words on top of the dictionary which
help us find the words faster. The guide printed on the left is
the first word, while the guide word on the right ist the last word
of the page.

Objective:
Locate synonyms and antonyms of words

A THESAURUS is a book that gives the synonyms and


antonyms of a word. Aside from synonyms and antonyms, a
thesaurus also gives meaning and part of speech of a word. It
also tells what part of speech a word is.
SYNONYMS are words which have the same meaning.
Examples: round – circle small – tiny
ANTONYMS are words which have opposite meaning.
Examples: young – old dry – wet
