Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

(This gives an aid to the teacher to orient the learners and support
the parents, elder sibling etc. of the learners on how to use the
module. Furthermore, this also instructs the teacher to remind the
learners to use separate sheets in answering the pre-test, self-check
exercises, and post-test.)

For the learner:

(This interactive module is intended to communicate directly to the
learner. This contains instructions on how to use the module. The
structure and the procedure of working through the module are
explained here. This also gives an overview of the content of the
module.)
LEARNING TARGETS

Hello my friend, I am your newbie

LEARNING ABOUT IT

Now, let’s practice reading a sentence

independently.

We have fun under the sun.

Does this sentence Does it end

tell about with a period
something or ask or a question
about something? mark?

This type of sentence is the most common in the English

language. Whether you know it or not, you usually use
declarative sentence all the time.

Let us know more about it.

A sentence that tells about something and

ends with a period is called declarative
sentence.

Examples:
All the chairs in the classroom are aligned.
She is dancing on the stage.
Marco will go to Bohol for the summer.

This time, let’s play a game! Do what I say…

✓ Please, stand up.
✓ Jump 5 times.
✓ Sit down.
Now, let us read this one…

Come here, Lita!. I will

Wow! A very beautiful
show you something.
pair of shoes! Show it
to Lisa, too.

What
Sure. punctuation
Let’s go. mark is placed
at the end of a
command or
imperative
sentence?

The sentence that tells a person to do

something is a command or imperative
sentence. It ends with a period.

Examples:
You wash the dishes after you eat.
Draw a circle and color it green.
Do not talk until you have finished the test.

Another type of sentence expresses more of your emotions.

Let’s read this sentence with complete facial expression…

There’s a snake on the floor!

A sentence that
expresses strong
feelings or emotions is
called exclamatory
sentence.

Examples:
Wow! Look at that!
That’s an amazing game!
Oh no! Richard left his jacket on the bus!

This time, let’s learn more about another type of sentence. It

can be a tool for getting the information we want.

Try to answer this…

Where do you live?

What is your favourite color?
Who is your teacher?

An interrogative sentence
asks a question.

Examples:
When is your birthday?
What are your plans for vacation?
How are you?
I hope you have understood
our discussion. Are you now ready
for our next activities? Let’s move!

KEEPING YOU IN PRACTICE

Practice Task 1:

Now, I want you to read the two sentences in each number.

Copy the sentences that give commands in the left column and
the sentences that express strong feelings in the right column.
Are you ready? Give it a try!

1. ● The rug is so dusty!

● Beat that rug to remove the dirt.

2. ● There is no water in the tub!

● Fill the tub with water.

3. ● Blow many soap bubbles.

● See the bubbles go up in the air!

4. ● That’s a very cute puppy!

● Give the puppy a good hug.

5. ● Stop that speeding bus.

● The bus might hit the puppy!

Imperative Sentence Exclamatory Sentence

Wow! Keep up the good work, my friend. Let’s move now to
the next activity. Are you ready? Let’s go!

Practice Task 2:

Before each sentence, draw a star ( ) if it is a declarative

sentence, and draw a heart ( ) if it is an interrogative sentence.
Then add the correct punctuation mark inside the box.
Best of luck!

_______ 1. Did you see the robot

_______ 2. The robot is nice
_______ 3. My brother named it Max
_______ 4. Where do you think it sleeps
_______ 5. It sleeps in the garage

Terrific! We’re almost done. Let’s proceed to the last activity

for this part of the module. Way to go!

Practice Task 3:

Read the conversation. On the line after each sentence, write

the type of sentence that was used. Use the following code.

D = Declarative Int = Interrogative

E = Exclamatory Imp = Imperative
Super-duper! You deserve two super stones for that. We’re
almost done. Can you still work on it? Alright! Up, up and away!
COOLING DOWN

In this activity, you are going to choose the letter of the

correct answer.

1. Which of these is a declarative sentence?

a. Will you go to the store with me?
b. Wow, you did a great job!
c. I am a student of public elementary school.
2. Which of these is an interrogative sentence?

following sentences. End punctuation means period, exclamation
point, or question mark.

1. Today is the hottest day of the month ______

2. Who is your closest friend _____
3. The house is on fire _____
4. Eat your lunch _____
You’ve got it made! I’ll give you another
two super stones for this activity. Now, we are
almost done with this module. Just be sure to
answer the last activity.

LEARNING CHALLENGE

For your last activity, you need to write two sentences for each
type of sentence. Don’t forget to use the correct punctuation
mark.

1. Declarative Sentence
a. _____________________________________________________
b. _____________________________________________________
2. Interrogative Sentence
a. _____________________________________________________
b. _____________________________________________________
3. Imperative Sentence

b. _____________________________________________________
4. Exclamatory Sentence

POINTS TO PONDER

Good writers use different kinds of sentences to make their

writing more interesting. There are four kinds of sentences.
A declarative sentence makes a statement. It ends with a
period.
An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a
question mark.
An imperative sentence gives a command or request. It ends
with a period.
An exclamatory sentence shows emotion or strong feelings. It
ends with an exclamation point.

This ends our module. Congratulations for

doing your best! You’ve got that power! See you
again next time!
