ARTICLE I - NAME
The name of the organization shall be Missouri Alpha Delta
Kappa of Alpha Delta Kappa, Incorporated, hereinafter referred
to as Missouri Alpha Delta Kappa. The first chapter of Missouri
Alpha Delta Kappa was chartered on March 19, 1949, in Mound
City, Missouri.

ARTICLE II - PURPOSE
The purpose of Missouri Alpha Delta Kappa shall be to promote
the purposes set forth in ARTICLE II of the current Bylaws of
Alpha Delta Kappa, Incorporated.

ARTICLE III – MEMBERSHIP

Refer to ARTICLE III in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,


Incorporated, for information on membership, transfer,
resignation, reinstatement, termination, Omega Chapter, and
dues, fees, and assessments. See also the Missouri Policies and
Procedures Manual on dues, fees and assessments.

ARTICLE V - SUSPENDING AND REVOKING OF CHARTERS


Refer to ARTICLE V in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, on suspending and revoking charters.
ARTICLE VI - INTERNATIONAL EXECUTIVE BODIES
Refer to ARTICLE VI in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on International Executive Bodies.

ARTICLE VII – OFFICERS


Refer to ARTICLE VII, Section 2 in the current Bylaws of Alpha
Delta Kappa, Incorporated, for information on state officers. See
the Missouri Policies and Procedures Manual.

Officers of Missouri Alpha Delta Kappa shall be president,


president-elect, secretary, treasurer, historian, chaplain,
president of the Missouri council of presidents and immediate
past president. The offices of vice president for membership,
corresponding secretary and sergeant-at-arms may be optional.
These are the minimum state officers required by International
Bylaws. If there were additional state officers, they would be
added to the list of optional officers in the bylaws and/or in the
Missouri Policies and Procedures Manual.

Section 1. Election

a. The elected candidate qualifications committee shall present


to the convention a slate of candidates whose eligibility
requirements have been met.
(1) In the event an eligible candidate cannot attend the
convention at which she is nominated to be elected and
installed, the delegates will vote to accept the candidate for
election by a two-thirds (2/3) vote. If elected, the absent officer
will have her name read in the Officer Installation Ceremony.

b. Election of state officers shall be by ballot and a majority of


the delegates registered and voting shall elect. In the event the
candidate qualifications committee presents an incomplete slate
of candidates, a candidate, without eligibility, willing to be
nominated for a vacant office may be accepted by the following
process:
(1) The delegates will vote, by ballot, to accept the
nomination of the candidate by a two-thirds (2/3) vote. If
adopted, the name of the candidate shall be added to the slate
of candidates.
(2) Previous notice shall be provided.

c. In the event the first ballot fails to give a majority to one (1)
candidate for any office, the second ballot shall contain the
names of the two (2) candidates receiving the highest number of
votes on the first ballot.

d. The president of the Missouri council of chapter presidents


shall be elected by the members at the council meeting held
during the convention, unless the duties of this office shall have

been delegated to another elected officer. The president of the


Missouri council of chapter presidents shall be installed with
other officers at the convention. If the slate of candidates has
only one person nominated for each office, the Missouri
president declares the election effective by unanimous consent
or acclamation.

e. No vote is needed for a candidate for the office of state


president-elect succeeding to the office of president.

Section 2. Duties of officers shall be listed in the Missouri Policies


andProcedures Manual.

ARTICLE VIII - COMMITTEES


Refer to ARTICLE VIII, Section 2 in the current Bylaws of Alpha
Delta Kappa, Incorporated, for information on state committees.
See also the Missouri Policies and Procedures Manual.

The following shall be designated as standing state committees:


Alpha Delta Kappa Month, altruistic, budget, bylaws, candidate
qualifications, fraternity education, and membership. Missouri
will also have the following as standing committees: auditing,
courtesy, excellence in education, resolutions, scholarship, state
convention, sustaining members, technology, and world
understanding.

Section 1. Standing committees and their chairmen, except the


candidate qualifications committee, which is elected by the
executive board, shall be appointed by the state president

following each state convention in even-numbered years or


when the committee is authorized by the executive board.

Section 2. Duties of standing committees shall be listed in the


Missouri Policies and Procedures Manual.

ARTICLE IX - INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION


Refer to Article IX in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on the International convention.

ARTICLE X - INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF PRESIDENTS


Refer to Article X in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on the International Council of
Presidents.

ARTICLE XI - REGIONS AND REGIONAL CONFERENCES


Refer to Article XI in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on regions and regional
conferences. Missouri is in the South Central Region, one of the
seven (7) regions in Alpha Delta Kappa.

ARTICLE XII - STATE CONVENTION


Refer to Article XII in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on state convention. See also the
Missouri Policies and Procedures Manual.

Section 1. Each Missouri sister registered and attending the state


convention is a delegate and shall be entitled to one (1) vote.

ARTICLE XIII - STATE COUNCIL OF CHAPTER PRESIDENTS


Refer to Article XIII in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on the state council of chapter
presidents. See also the Officer and Committee Manual in the
Handbook of Alpha Delta Kappa, Incorporated, and the Missouri
Policies and Procedures Manual.
Section 1. The Missouri council of chapter presidents shall meet
in conjunction with the state convention in the even-numbered
years.

ARTICLE XIV - DISTRICTS


Refer to Article XIV in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on districts. Missouri does not
currently have districts. If deemed advisable, the state executive
board shall establish districts and develop guidelines for
governance and operations.

ARTICLE XV - CITY/AREA COUNCILS OF CHAPTER PRESIDENTS


Refer to Article XV in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on city/area councils of chapter
presidents. Missouri does not currently have city/area councils
of chapter presidents.

ARTICLE XVI - CHAPTER MEETINGS


Refer to Article XVI in the current Bylaws of The Alpha Delta
Kappa Sorority Incorporated, for information on chapter
meetings.
ARTICLE XVII - STATE AND CHAPTER BYLAWS
Refer to Article XVII in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on state and chapter bylaws. See
also the Missouri Policies and Procedures Manual.

Section 1. Missouri Alpha Delta Kappa shall adopt bylaws and/or


policies procedures manual, which must be in compliance with
the International Constitution and Bylaws. Each biennium, the
state bylaws chairman shall send, for certification, a current copy
of the state bylaws or the official policy statement, from the
Missouri Policies and Procedures Manual, that satisfies the
requirement of the Internal Revenue Service for states of the
United States of America and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico,
to the chairman of the International Bylaws Committee by
October 15 of even-numbered years.

Section 2. The chapters shall adopt bylaws and/or policies and


procedures manual, which must be compliance with the
International Constitution and Bylaws and the Missouri Bylaws
and/or the Missouri Policies and Procedures Manual. Each
biennium, the chapter bylaws chairman shall send, for
certification, a current copy of the chapter bylaws or the official
policy statement, from the chapter policies and procedures
manual, that satisfies the requirement of the International

Revenue Service for states of the United States of America and


the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, to the chairman of the state
bylaws committee by March 15 of odd-numbered years.

ARTICLE XVIII - PUBLICATIONS


Refer to Article XVIII in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on publications, The official
newsletter of Missouri Alpha Delta Kappa shall be the MISSOURI
SHOW-ME NEWS,.

ARTICLE XIX - PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY


Refer to Article XIX in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on parliamentary authority.

ARTICLE XX - SUSPENSION OF BYLAWS


Refer to Article XX in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, for information on suspension of bylaws.

ARTICLE XXI - AMENDING OF BYLAWS


Refer to Article XXI in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Incorporated, and the Missouri Policies and Procedures Manual
for information on amending the bylaws.

Section 1. These bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds (⅔)


vote of the official delegates present and voting at any regular
state convention provided that:
A. Amendments may be submitted by the state executive
board, the state bylaws committee, or by a majority of the active

members of a chapter. Amendments shall be submitted to the


Missouri bylaws committee chairman by November of odd-
numbered years.
B. Amendments shall be studied by the state executive
board. If passed by a two-thirds (⅔) majority vote of this board,
they shall be sent to each chapter for study at least thirty (30)
and not more than ninety (90) days prior to the state
convention.

Section 2. Unless otherwise provided prior to its adoption or in


the motion to adopt, an amendment to these bylaws shall
become the law of Missouri Alpha Delta Kappa at the close of
the state convention at which it shall have been adopted.
