MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
President ,Project Management Board (Wah Medical College)

Wah Medical College, by the grace of Almighty Allah, has started Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical
College in Wah Cantt. Wah is known for its high quality education in various fields.

Nursing profession has evolved dramatically since its inception. The diverse role of nurses in the
modern world demands that they must be fully conversant with clinical competencies expertise
along with management skills. Therefore, continuous professional development (CPD) is the need
of the hour. Ongoing education is the corner stone for the enhancement of quality care. Being a
progressing field of the patients. It is therefore, imperative that such innovations are regularly
learnt, reviewed and updated. Nurses need to ensure commitment for humane and thoughtful
application of resources to achieve quality patient care.

There is a grave national level deficiency of qualified nurses. Nursing profession of Pakistan has gradually evolved and developed in to a
dynamic source of nursing practices by adopting latest advances with available resources. There is no doubt that nurses play a pivotal
role in delivering health care. They are advocates for health promotion. Nurses have always been at the forefront of change in health
care.

The missionary spirit and the nobility of our profession are the guiding principles for all of us and we should never forget these. I wish all

WHAT IS NURSING?

Nursing is a science and art which is guided by research and governed by code of ethics. Nursing integrates concepts from
bio-psychosocial sciences and spiritualism to provide essential services to people. The pursuit of knowledge and tradition
of rendering care foster the blending of traditional values with modern technology and functional requirements.
BScN Graduate Nurses have plenty of opportunities to seek higher education like Master of Science in Nursing, Health
Sciences, Social Sciences, Doctorate, Post-Doctorate, and specializations in many other disciplines.

Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical College is easily accessible, being on the Mall Road of Wah Cantt and adjacent to the
main entrance while approaching from Islamabad. A purpose built campus for Institute of Nursing Wah Medical College is
available which accommodates all the basic and Pre-clinical sciences departments and the Administration Block. Spacious
lecture halls, innovative laboratories and awe-inspiring museums have been established to impart the best possible
nursing training. The girls and boys hostels are at a walking distance from the academic block & the teaching hospital.

The Institute of Nursing WMC is an initiative to


produce quality nurses and to improve the
current deficiencies in the health care system
of the country. This institute was initially
started in 1975 with the aim to provide three
years General Nursing Diploma Program. In
order to address the new trends and
requirements of health promotion and quality
education, it is indispensable to instill the
students with the latest knowledge and skills.
Therefore, the institute has started two
degree level programs and one diploma
program (Nurse Midwifery) with the approval
of Pakistan Nursing Council and University of
Health Sciences Lahore as under:
Post RN BSc Nursing (2 Years Degree Program)
Generic BSc Nursing (4 Years Degree program)
Nurse Midwifery (1 Year Diploma program)

FUTURE PLAN
Gradually, the Institute will expand its horizon to cater various educational programs in nursing division, i.e. different
specialities and MSc.N.

ATTACHED HOSPITALS WITH INSTITUTION
The Teaching hospital of Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical College is POFs Hospital. It is 759 beded
hospital with all allied facilities. It provides an infrastructure with 685 beds in the main teaching hospital

and 74 in the out reach facility. It was established in 1962. It has gone through a continuous process of up

gradation and has become one of the leading hospitals in the country, category “A”, delivering primary
Brig Riaz Anjum, SI(M) and tertiary medical facilities to the POF employees, their families and the population from the

ASSESSMENT AND EXAMINATION (For Degree Programs)

Internal Assessment:
The continuous internal assessment shall contribute 10% to the total allocated marks for each subject in a professional
examination. Awards of internal assessment will be equally distributed to the final Theory and Oral/Practical Examinations scores

of a candidate and not to an individual component like MCQs, SEQs paper or Oral/Practical/ Clinical Examination.
Eligibility of students to appear in University Exams:
1. The professional examination shall be open to any student who is certified by the Principal Institute of Nursing, Wah

Medical College for bearing:

a. Good character
b. Having attended not less than 85% of the full course of lectures delivered and practical/tutorial conducted in

each subject.

c. Having cleared all the outstanding dues


2. However, the students falling short of his/her percentage in attendance may be permitted to appear in the examination if

they complete their deficiency through special makeup classes / clinicals conducted up to the commencement of the next

examination while remaining on the college rolls.

3. A candidate who fails in one or more subjects in a professional examination of University of Health sciences Lahore, shall, if

he/she so desires, provisionally be allowed to join the next higher class still the commencement of supplementary examination .

The candidate, however, will have to pass the failed subjects in the supplementary examinations failing which he/she will be

detained in that class. Under no circumstances, a candidate will be promoted to next higher class till he/she passes the
professional examination of preceding class.

ASSESSMENT AND EXAMINATION (For Diploma Program)

Internal Assessment:
The continuous internal assessment shall be conducted throughout the year including mid-term and send-up examination of

Theory, Viva and clinical Practical. The annual examination will be taken by Nursing Examination Board (NEB)Lahore, Punjab.

Eligibility of students to appear in University Exams:


1. The annual examination shall be open to any student who is certified by the principal Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical

College for bearing

a. Good character
b. Having attended not less than 85% of the full course of lectures delivered and practical/tutorial conducted in

each subject.
c. Having cleared all the outstanding dues

All the class rooms are equipped with multimedia and white board. The Institute provides necessary comfort to make the

Library
For the purpose of self study, the institute houses a spacious and
well-stocked library where text and reference books have been
placed for the use of faculty and students. The main library has
the facility of internet, online journals, and, sufficient number of
CDS and audio visuals material on the topics of clinical and basic
health sciences.

English Language Lab

English Language lab is equipped with the Audio-Visual Aids


(AVAs), which focuses on different aspects of English language
enhancement. The Learners utilize a number of resources
during their college hours to improve their English.

Information Technology
For all computer related work, students are utilizing computer lab located in Institute of Nursing and main library of Wah
Medical College Wah Cantt.

CLINICAL BASED FACILITIES


For the clinical practice, Nursing students are utilizing different facilities of the
hospitals.
These hospitals provide an exposure to a number of clinical disciplines related
to all areas of medical and surgical nursing, mental health nursing, leadership
and management, Pediatric, gynecology and obstetrics. The primary clinical
site remains POF hospital, however, for certain specialized training such as
Psychiatry, care for the terminally ill patients, etc. students achieve their
clinical teaching in other hospital settings.

STUDENT AFFAIRS
Student affairs office is the main resource for students' contact from the time before admission (through admission office) till
their graduation and as alumni of the Institute. This office is students' advisor, record keeper and information source. Student
affairs office manages:
Admissions related procedures & processes
Liaison with Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) and University's Registrar Office.
Keeps Students' Records update
Organizes Graduation ceremony
Formal letters regarding different
matters relevant to students, are
mailed to parents/gaurdians regularly.
Students and parents are requested to

contacts, and email ids’ updated with
the Student Affairs Office at all times.

HEALTH CARE SERVICES (FACULTY, STAFF & STUDENTS)


Medical care facilities are provided to faculty, staff and students under arrangements of IoN, WMC. The students have to pay
the actual bills for outdoor investigations other than consultancy and indoor treatment. For the employees of Institute of
Nursing, WMC; the outdoor treatment is free of cost and the finances for indoor treatment are being sponsored by the Wah
Medical College.

RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
Institute of Nursing has different recreational facilities such as tennis, cricket ground,
walking/jogging tracks etc. Female students are provided with equal opportunities
in games like table tennis and badminton. Institute of Nursing arranges picnics and
recreational trips for all students as per academic year plan.

HOSTEL / TRANSPORT / CAFETERIA


Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical College has separate Girls and Boys hostels
(subject to availability of rooms) with hygienic living and catering services. The Girls
hostel is supervised by a lady warden. There are round the clock security
arrangements.
The Institute has an excellent fleet of vehicles for pick-and-drop of students & faculty
members for the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. There is a beautiful masjid
in the premises of the Wah Medical College.
The premises have cafeterias and several tuck shops where students and faculty can
get food items.

Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical College will enroll 30 students for Post RN BSc Nursing. Both Female & Male candidates have

equal opportunity to apply against reserved seats from anywhere in Pakistan. Due to high competition, possession of minimum

eligibility may not guarantee the final selection.

ADMISSION INTO 2 YEAR POST RN BScN DEGREE PROGRAM
Eligibility for Admission
Matric with science (as per HEC requirements).
Diploma in General Nursing (3 years) with minimum of 2nd Division by the Provincial Nursing Examination Board
One year diploma in midwifery for females or in any speciality for males
Valid Registration with Pakistan Nursing Council
01 years of experience after Midwifery or speciality in any nationally recognized hospital
Passing the entrance test and interview of Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical College
No age limit
Both male and female can apply against reserved seats
Candidates must get no objection certificate (NOC) from their Competent Authority , if government employed.
In addition, preference will be given to students with higher Secondary Certificate HSC (Intermediate)
Admission will be made on merit determined according to the marks obtained in Matric, Diploma in General Nursing
or equivalent exam and entry test as per following weightage:
Matric / Equivalent 10%
Diploma in General Nursing 20%
Entry Test 50%
Interview 20%
Entrance Test
All eligible candidates will appear in entrance test. The purpose of this test is to identify candidates’ ability to cope with the studies
and clinical requirements of the course. The candidates will be tested for Nursing, English, Mathematics.
Interview
It is necessary for applicants to pass the interview to get admission.
Confirmation of Admission
Students will be confirmed about their admission within 10 days after test and interview.

well before the start of academic session. Applications are accepted as per published admission schedule (also available at
Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical College website).

The Institute prospectus costs a is Rs. 1000/-. The prospectus is supplied with application kit and it includes instructions, fee
structure, fee refund rules, procedure & other relevant details. It may be obtained from the Institute of Nursing Wah Medical
College office on cash payment in person. The non refundable application processing fee for applicants is Rs. 1000/-. A bank
draft / pay order made out to Wah Medical College for Rs. 1000/- or cash must be attached/submitted with application form as
processing fee. For candidates applying through online will submit a bank draft of Rs. 2000/- in total made out to Wah Medical
College with their application form.
Duly filled application form including the attested documents specified in eligibility criteria and the pay order / bank draft for
application processing fee should be posted by registered mail or through a reliable courier service or delivered in person to the
institute office at institute of Nursing, Wah Medical College from Monday to Friday between 08:00 a.m. to 03:00 p.m. only.

The procedures are approved by the Board of Management of the Institute; relative percentage of all the aforementioned

ADMISSION INTO 4 YEARS GENERIC BScN DEGREE PROGRAM
Eligibility for Admission
The candidates should have passed F.Sc (Pre Medical) with minimum 50% marks. OR
“A” Level certification accompanied by an equivalence certificate for the inter board committee of Chairman (IBCC).
Passing the entrance test and interview of Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical College.
Age limit is 14 to 35 years.
Both male and female can apply
Decision of selection committee on the basis of entrance test and interview will be final.
Females are encouraged to apply.
Admission will be made on merit determined according to the marks obtained in Matric, F.Sc or equivalent exam and entry
Test as per following weightage:

Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical College will enroll 25 students for Nurse Midwifery 1 year Diploma Program. All eligible

candidates as per criteria may apply against reserved seats from anywhere in Pakistan. Due to high competition, possession

Diploma in Nursing (03 Years) with minimum of Second Division by the Provincial Nursing Examination Board
Valid registration with Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC)

Dress Code
Wearing the knee long white coat (overall) is mandatory during study days. Students are expected to dress appropriately according
to PNC protocols when on duty in th hospital, health centers, clinics and other places of learning. Untidy or inappropriate clothing
may offend patients, their relatives and visitors and result in lack of confidence in the care offered, as well as negatively affect the
public image of the Institute of Nursing, Wah Medical College.
