    Globally, the rate of deaths from noncommunicable causes, such as heart


    disease, stroke, and injuries, is growing. At the same time, the number of
    deaths from infectious diseases, such as malaria, tuberculosis, and
    vaccine-preventable diseases, is decreasing.

    Global Health Threats
    The World Health Organization has released a list of 10 threats to global health in 2019.
    They include:
    ● Air pollution and climate change
    ● Noncommunicable diseases
    ● Threat of a global influenza pandemic
    ● Fragile and vulnerable settings, such as regions affected by drought and conflict
    ● Antimicrobial resistance
    ● Ebola and high-threat pathogens
    ● Weak primary care
    ● Vaccine hesitancy
    ● Dengue
    ● HIV

    Trends Future Affecting Public Health

    These trends include: the aging of the population, changing patterns in the U.S.
    racial/ethnic composition, changes in health care delivery systems, the explosion of
    information technologies, changing needs in the public health workforce, the growth in
    health-related partnerships, and anti-government sentiment and polarization.

    Role of the CHN in the National and Global Health Care Delivery System
    The primary role of community health nurses is to provide treatment to patients. They
    plan educational assemblies, hand -out fliers, conduct health screenings, dispense
    medications and administer immunizations. Nurses also may distribute health-related
    items like condoms and pregnancy tests.

    Anticipates and identifies patient needs. Nurses play a large role in discharge planning. To
    achieve continuity of care, nurses use critical thinking skills and apply the nursing
    process. To anticipate and identify the patient's needs, nurses work with all members of the
    multidisciplinary health care team.

    Global Health Security Agenda
    The GHSA is an effort by nations, international organizations, and civil society to
    accelerate progress toward a world safe and secure from infectious disease
    threats; to promote global health security as an international priority; and to spur
    progress toward full implementation of the World Health Organization External (WHO)
    International Health Regulations External 2005 (IHR), the World Organization for Animal
    Health External (OIE) Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) pathway External. and
    other relevant global health security frameworks.

    In order to encourage progress toward these goals, the “Action Packages” concept
    was developed to facilitate regional and global collaboration toward specific GHSA
    objectives and targets.
