Dear Customer / Operator,

The purpose of this Information Letter is to provide all Customers and Operators with all the
information available in order to introduce additional safety containment measure to the COVID-19
spread.
In order to support special operations involved in national COVID-19 management Leonardo
Helicopters (LH) is continuously working to provide solutions to separate cabin and cockpit
answering at the best Customer requirements and needs.

In particular, LH is herewith providing:
 List of approved separation solution (TC & STC) available through LH or its Suppliers/Partners
(ref. Annex A)
 Guideline to support Operators and the Competent Authorities (CAs) to temporary approve minor
modification where the lead time for an already approved solution is not in line with the timeframe
request to support the actual operational requirements (ref. Annex B).
LH is also working on additional solutions for all its Products and this Information Letter will be
kept up to date to reflect any new solution available to Customers.
In addition to the above, LH is also aware that Operators are working independently to develop
their own modification/solution, in this case, if the guidance provided in the Annex B of this letter is
not sufficient, please contact LH Product Support Engineering
([email protected]), providing all the pertinent information of the
modification (material, location, weight, installation details, …) and requirement to support your
application and/or verify a suitable and acceptable solution.
Finally, please be informed that this information material should be considered by helicopter
Operators in synergy with the CAs and the recommendations of WHO, ECDC and national public
health authorities in regard to the management of contacts, suspected and confirmed cases.
Should you need any additional information, do not hesitate to refer to the point of contact

5 ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
GENERAL NOTES
a) Place an identification tag on all components that are re-usable,
including the attaching hardware that has been removed to gain
access to the modification area and adequately protect them until
their later re-use.
b) Let adhesive cure at room temperature for at least 24 hours unless
otherwise specified.
c) All lengths are in mm.
d) Refer to Figure 1 for an example of installation.
e) When the separation wall is installed, ensure the presence and the
correct accessibility of a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher both in
cockpit and in passengers cabin.

1. In accordance with applicable Maintenance Manual, prepare the helicopter on ground for a
safe maintenance. Disconnect the battery, all electrical power sources and/or the external
power supply.
2. Gain access to the area between cockpit and passengers cabin. If necessary, in accordance
with the applicable maintenance manual, remove all the furnishing, systems or equipment
that could prevent the access to the area.

CAUTION
While planning the sheet installation, verify that:
 no decal is covered;
 no interference with any system on the pedestal is present;
 no interference with the pilot/co-pilot seats in full backward position
is present;
 access of pilot/co-pilot and crew to the fire extinguishers is ensured.
3. On a workbench, lay down the transparent and opaque sheets and overlap them for about 5
cm on the long side.
4. Join the two sheets using tape. Apply insulating self-sealing tape on both the free edges of
the sheet junction to maximize the isolation.

NOTE
The transparent sheet must be positioned on the upper side of the
separation wall at the top of the fuselage to allow pilots to see the
passenger cabin.

NOTE
Make sure to have enough margin to apply the tape all around the
sheet perimeter.
5. Cut the wall obtained at the previous steps to a dimension large enough to cover the entire
surface between the cockpit and passengers cabin (ref. to Table A for minimum wall
dimensions). The transparent part of the wall should cover about 1/3 of the total surface.

NOTE
Clean and degrease the liners surface before the application of the
hook tape and the self-sealing tape
6. Apply the hook tape on the helicopter liners between the cockpit and passengers cabin.
7. Apply the loop tape on the wall perimeter.
8. Temporarily fix the wall in its position using tape. Mark on the wall perimeter the positions of
all the screws present on the liners overlapped by the wall.
9. Remove the wall and all the screws whose positions have been marked.
10. Install on the wall perimeter the metallic grommets P/N NASM20230 on the positions marked
before.

NOTE
It is allowed to use screws of increased length to compensate the
installation of washers and metallic grommets
11. Fix the wall in its position using tape. Reinstall all the screws previously removed fixing the
metallic grommets on the liners. If not present, add washers to the screws.
12. In case the screws on the liner are located in a position not suitable for the sheet installation
proceed as follows:
12.1 Install on the liner the stud plates NASM27980-7B using adhesive EC9323 (at least
two on each side).
12.2 Fix the wall on the liner using the corresponding buttons.
13. If necessary, trim the excess wall.
14. Apply an insulating self-sealing tape all around the wall perimeter to maximize the isolation.
15. In accordance with the applicable maintenance manual, reinstall all the furnishing, systems
or equipment previously removed.
16. Verify the integrity of the wall before each flight.
17. Refer to Attachment 1 for ECS/Heating system operative procedure.
18. Return the helicopter to a ready to flight condition.

SUGGESTED ECS/HEATING
SYSTEM SETTING

SYSTEM SETTING
NOTE
The following settings are not intended as limitations to be
applied in place of those reported in the Rotorcraft Flight
Manual.
In order to minimize the airflow exchange between cockpit and passengers cabin, the
following instruction should be followed:
 If Kit Heating is installed on the helicopter it can be OFF: in this case all cabin
ducts shall be closed with metallic tape or equivalent. If the kit Heating is
requested to be ON, it should be left at minimum for all the flight. In that case, the
lower cockpit ducts should be closed with metallic taper or equivalent.

NOTE
This step in not applicable to AW189

 If Kit Ventilation (or ECS) is installed on the helicopter, at Power UP, the
Ventilation system (or ECS) in the cabin shall be powered ON and kept ON for
all the duration of the mission. In addition, LH recommendation is to perform the
cleaning of the cabin after a biocontainment isolation mission with
ECS/Ventilation system in cabin kept active during the cleaning procedure. Refer
to Information Letter GEN-20-082 and GEN-20-084 for cleaning advices.
 If the ventilation system (or ECS) is divided in two parts (one for cockpit and one
for cabin), the cockpit system should be always ON and the fan speed should be
greater than passengers cabin fan speed (better if passengers cabin fan speed
is OFF).
 If available, select the fresh air mode instead of recirc./heat./cond. mode.
 If kit Ventilation (or ECS) in installed on the helicopter, whatever heating setting,
the cockpit overhead gaspers shall be closed and metallic taper or equivalent to
be added (only for AW169).
