    STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

    Name: Akshay Kumar


    Proposed Program: Master of Science in Structural Engineering

    I hail from a family involved in business of real estate sector and civil contractors, and this
    has ingrained in me a strong inclination to pursue a career in the construction sector. The
    Civil Engineering profession was a natural choice considering the firm grounding in
    mathematics and sciences that I received during my school education. I decided to pursue a
    Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University,
    Lucknow. In my four years of undergraduate studies I was exposed to various branches of
    civil engineering such as structural, geotechnical, coastal, environmental and water
    resources engineering. Among all the fields of Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering has
    caught my imagination the most. Structural Engineering aims for a synergy between various
    domains of Engineering Design and Construction and this I find extremely exciting. The
    applications of this field have touched every segment of civil engineering.

    I am a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering. Civil Engineering has been my passion


    since I decided I want to pursue a career in the Construction Industry. After completing my
    graduation I have also worked as a Site Engineer Trainee for a construction company in
    India which gave me basic understanding and knowledge of how an actual construction
    site operates. I've gained firsthand experience in structural analysis, engineering
    techniques, understanding the quality of materials, site management, billing & expenses,
    execution of site work and much more. I believe, in addition to the above exposure I've
    had, this course will help me acquire practical skills in my area of interest and to grow
    further professionally.

    The exposure that I gained during the internship & my brief employment period intrigued
    me in the area of structural aspects of civil engineering. I am confident that a Master's
    program would further help me broaden my perspective and to develop my knowledge
    and understanding of the best practices and techniques in depth. Another highly
    motivating factor that leads me to choose this course is my aspiration to run my own
    structural consultancy utilising latest techniques and skill set, which I will acquire while
    pursuing this program. Needless to say, I see it as a step forward to turn my dream into
    reality.

    London happens to be one of the top most centres of commerce in the world that
    continues to drive economic growth, which makes it a hub characterized by solid
    infrastructure, stable regulatory and political environments, and the availability of various
    opportunities to help trade and business grow hence, UK is my first choice to study abroad.
    Also, UK welcomes international students from all around the globe thus providing a multi
    cultural environment to learn and grow. The quality of education and qualifications are
    world renowned. The education system is research based as it follows British Educational
    Model that provides hands on practical exposure. Further, UK is also considered as one of
    the most beautiful country in the world and that further inspires me to choose UK as my life
    changer destination.

    Newcastle University happens to be the ----- highest ranked university in United Kingdom,
    Which offers world class education and also happens to be an economically viable for me.
    Their degrees are recognized all over the world as high standards. I am very enthusiastic to
    grab this opportunity of learning in a diverse environment with students from different
    parts of the world. I am sure I’ll have many different experiences while studying in a
    multicultural environment that will help me not only to grow professionally but also
    personally. Also, I would be very happy to live in The UK as it is such a scenic country with
    ultra-modern architecture, well renowned for its work-life balance and as a stable
    economy. I believe Masters in structural engineering will give me an upper hand & the
    right skill set to take my career to a new level. I look forward to be a part of your university
    & to begin the next chapter of my life very soon.
